D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to cease these unwarranted and rude accusations. Please attempt to be civil.

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

Why are you taking this so personally? I wasn't putting words in your mouth, I was providing my understanding of the specific text in your post. Maybe you should take a break and calm down a bit?

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

Translation: "I made a poor argument, and got called on it. So now I will try to change the subject rather than concede the point."

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

If you don't give a damn, then don't waste your time and mine by engaging in semantic gymnastics in an attempt to avoid using the term "house rule". I find such antics distasteful at best and dishonest at worst. If you don't care about druids wearing metal armor, just say so and remove that...

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

Sorry. "Now you are repeating someone else's inane argument, so let me repeat my response to that argument."

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

Now you are just repeating yourself. So I will repeat myself. If you truly want to pretend that a magical staff of power, created specifically to aid in the casting of spells, is not also an arcane focus, then go ahead. Don't expect me to take your opinion seriously though.

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

What an inane level of nit picking. I already said I wouldn't let this work, why are you choosing my posts to jump on? But, since you insist: If you want to pretend a "Staff of Power" that specifically gives a bonus to spell attack rolls and is described as a "staff that can be wielded as a...

You obviously didn't understand what I was saying.

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

You can do a spells somatic components using the same hand you are holding a spellcasting focus with. A staff is an arcane spellcasting focus. Per the PHB, page 203: The bit about holding a spellcasting focus is not in the 1st printing of the PHB, but it is in the errata document and later...

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

This. I think RAW allows them to stack, but I have no problem house ruling that in my game, and think any sane DM should do the same.

    Then you do that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hand cannon?

Don't know about the subclass, and don't care about it. The question from the OP was how one would implement a version of the chinese hand cannon in 5e D&D. This is how I would do it. Not everything needs to be tied to a specific class or subclass ability. I don't feel the need to justify...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shadowscale (Dragonborn Rogue Archtype)

Maybe I will have it upgrade the Rogue Blindsense at lvl 14 to Blindsight. It's outside the normal levels at which path abilities are gained, but it's a upgrade to an existing ability. I'll have to think about it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Shadowscale (Dragonborn Rogue Archtype)

Hmm...Good point. You think Blindsight 10' would be more appropriate? The only reason I'm going with blindsight is that dragons all have blindsight due to their keen senses.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hand cannon?

Which is exactly what I want. Otherwise it would simply be too powerful.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hand cannon?

My logic is that D&D does not attempt to be historically accurate, or even realistic when it comes to weapons. So I'm not trying to exactly simulate a historical weapon that I have no real data about. It's more of a cinematic/fantasy version of the weapon. I'm basing it off the Wand of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shadowscale (Dragonborn Rogue Archtype)

This is my first pass at a Dragonborn specific Rogue Archtype, loosely based on the Shadow Dragon template. Shadowscale (Dragonborn Rogue Archtype) The Shadowscales are an organization of Dragonborn Rogues that have learned to embrace the Shadowfell and combine the abilities of a Shadow...

D&D 5E (2014) Quarterstaff, shield and polearm master

Yes. Going from 1d6 to 1d8 is true power. The game cannot survive. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Quarterstaff, shield and polearm master

Yep, it works by the rules. No it's not a big deal. (Great Weapon Master and Sharpshooter have a greater impact on the game). Some people find it annoying and house rule it away anyway. Which (in my opinion) just gets rid of an interesting character option and gives players more...

D&D 5E (2014) How to model a party of cinematically charismatic heroes?

As others have said, it's not really necessary. But...if you want to give a mechanical benefit, you could simply have each character pick a specific area of social expertise (or something that people inexplicably find funny/attractive about them) and allow them to use their highest stat...
