    [SPELLS and MAGIC] Design Discussion

I think your house ruling is off. I take the text that they don't have to make checks to mean that they don't normally have to make checks, as is the case with all natural movement modes. But in extraordinary circumstances-- like taking damage-- even creatures with a natural movement mode must...

    [SPELLS and MAGIC] Design Discussion

They should be one in the same. I know you do. If PF was consistent in the way that it preserves the niche of spellcasters, while ostensibly bringing mechanical balance, I'd understand that more. So your players will complain that spider climb doesn't let you climb like a spider, but no...

    [SPELLS and MAGIC] Design Discussion

It's about unity of mechanics. Actually, spiders and monkeys use the exact same rules for climbing, RAW. There's no functional, mechanical difference between the ways that spiders and monkeys scamper up a blank wall. The spell also already works as Valhalla described, and pretty much as I...

You misread him. If the attack misses due to concealment, it's prevented. Even if the attack was a crit. (We don't notice that in our games because we roll for miss chance before rolling the attack.)

    [SPELLS and MAGIC] Design Discussion

I'd prefer that the invisible rogue is better at Stealth than the invisible wizard, the rogue with Spider Climb is better than the wizard at Climb, and the rogue with knock (somehow, roll with me here) is better than the wizard at opening locks. Ditto for detect traps, detect secret doors, etc...

    [SPELLS and MAGIC] Design Discussion

Let me pose a problem to you, to get a bit of insight. The party has access to a wizard with both fly and invisibility. They also have a rogue with really good Hide and Move Silently scores. Based on those resources, who is the best choice to sneak past the following guards: a) a human guard...

Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

I wouldn't call it enormously significant, but as a professional writer, very few of the words I use are unintentional. It's sort of like asking a slugger if he actually aims for the ball or just gets up there and swings the bat.

Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

It's funny watching the flea dictate terms to the dog. I checked out Privateer's official army builder app, iBodger. It looks pretty slick.

    [SPELLS and MAGIC] Design Discussion

There is definitely some awkwardness involved in the Hide/MS and Listen/Spot merge. Passive Perception checks help resolve this somewhat: If an invisible user gets a huge (+20 moving/+40 stationary) bonus to Stealth, he will be "immune" to most passive Perception scores. Unless he does...

I think this change is pretty much a done deal.

    [Monsters] Extreme Elimination Challenge!

Just a quick note: We have more flexibility with a PDF than we do with the printed version. There's no reason to cut anything in the PDF and in fact we'll make sure that each monster has plenty of elbow room. Now, on the other hand, when it comes to the print version, there's a high...

    [MONSTERS] Design Discussion and Preview

My suggestion was not to include Weapon Finesse into CMB/CMD at all. <shrug> I still feel like 3e players are decrying the complexity of the rules one moment and yet demanding total transparency to every last bonus/penalty the next. What do you gain by knowing where the bonuses are derived...

Patronage Project? For the Monster book?

Thanks for the heads-up. It never ceases to amaze me how different every community of gamers can be!

Patronage Project? For the Monster book?

We can sort that out in conversation, but rest assured I am comfortable using Open Content. (That much should be evident in Trailblazer.) That's a perfectly acceptable use of your "monster." You describe the monster, then it's our job to work with you to make sure that what you want is...

    [SPELLS and MAGIC] Design Discussion

Globe of Invulnerability is a good model, I think, although obviously there are some functional differences. (And Abjuration is just generally better at trumping every other school, at least defensively.) I like to think that Divination and Illusion should trump each other, with the higher...

    [MONSTERS] Design Discussion and Preview

Sounds like a tough group. If you had to put them on a spectrum of power with "1" being "Darth Vader" and "10" being "Superman," how would they rate?
