    D&D 5E (2014) Wood Elf Monks

Sacrosanct nailed it. Human or Halfling, but Wood Elf is awesome too.

    D&D 5E (2014) A little help please for a first time spellcaster.

Hello. Tomorrow I am playing a spellcasters for the first time in 5e. It's a human cleric, first level. I have a 16 WIS. How many spells do I get? I understand I pick 3 cantrips. Under "Spell Slots per Spell Level" I get two 1st level spells. That seems well and good, until I get to the...

D&D 5E (2014) Is a dwarf wizard still "playing against type"?

I remember one of those flavor short stories in Dragon magazine shortly after 3e hit the shelves, and it featured a dwarf wizard. Seemed pretty cool to me then!

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Cleric really one of the ‘core four’ anymore?

nice post! Clerics were long my favorite class as well (and I still really like them, to a certain extent). In basic D&D (the game I spent a large part of my elementary school days playing), nobody else wanted to be a Cleric. I wanted in on the game, so I made one. I found that, although I...

D&D 5E (2014) Is a dwarf wizard still "playing against type"?

how many D&D novels have there been that started after 3e came out? I'm seriously asking: I have no idea.

How exactly does this work? I didn't encounter it in my one 5e game...

    D&D 5E (2014) Necromancer Archetypes For PCs

I fancy an idea of a good necromancer defending a castle from a siege. As archers from the castle slay a number of attackers, the good necromancer animates the dead. The attackers are now forced to slay their former comrades.

D&D 5E (2014) Is a dwarf wizard still "playing against type"?

YES!! This was in Basic D&D. Halflings could get to level 8, Elves to 10, and Dwarves to 12. Then they'd start getting ranks, which were represented by letters. So you could have a level 12 F Dwarf. LOL, I forgot about that! In AD&D 1e and 2e, there were level limits for all demihumans...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Cleric really one of the ‘core four’ anymore?

You know, the Fighter, Cleric, Thief, and Magic User should be called "the original four" or "the basic four" It's fairly common and quite easy to form a very effective party without any of these classes.

D&D 5E (2014) Is a dwarf wizard still "playing against type"?

I believe there was an optional rule somewhere along the way where you could break the level barrier, but it took double the XP. I know the level limit could also be pushed back if your prime requisite was high enough.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Cleric really one of the ‘core four’ anymore?

As stated above, there is a lot of overlap between the classes now. You don't need a "core 4" anymore. I have only played one session of D&D 5e. I haven't seen much combat. I have a feeling that, while the party has some potions, the lack of any healing (aside from one Paladin and my Second...

    D&D 5E (2014) Level 1 Fighter builds

I prefer point buy over rolling for stats. That being said, I agree with you. If you're building a Fighter at first level, go with a human. The heavy armor mastery feat is extremely impressive. You'll have a better AC than a barbarian, and considering the DR, you'll probably last longer in...

D&D 5E (2014) Is a dwarf wizard still "playing against type"?

I wasn't asking why dwarf wizards are/were considered against type, I was asking, after 15 years of being a viable class, if we've moved on. I started playing when Dwarf, Elf, and Halfling were classes too.

    D&D 5E (2014) eldritch knight multiclass

Good point. Multiclassing is tough in this game. It's not the power grab it was in 2e, that's for sure!

D&D 5E (2014) Halfling Barbarians-Finally a edition that lets the monster out of it's cage.

They fell behind power wise because they had smaller weapons. Now, that's not an issue.

D&D 5E (2014) Halfling Barbarians-Finally a edition that lets the monster out of it's cage.

He will fall behind any real warrior when they hit 5th level and the warriors get extra attacks. Cool character though!

D&D 5E (2014) Is a dwarf wizard still "playing against type"?

We have been able to play dwarf wizards since 3e came out in the year 2000. Is playing a dwarf wizard still "playing against type"? Or can it be considered the norm now? Since being allowed to, the dwarf race has never had any disadvantage casting spells. What do you guys think?
