I don't think the "tank" concept came from MMO's. I remember saying it when we were playing 2e AD&D and that was before there was an Internet as we know it.

Anybody aiming to make sure all PCs have darkvision?

I'm going to be starting an Out of the Abyss campaign next week, and this group plays by the books. 27 point buy, starting at level 1. I want to build a tank, somebody who can both dish out damage and draw the attacks away from the other PCs, who are much squishier than I plan on being...

I think that's 18 skills as well, but the variant human gets it a lot quicker.

Would you consider Crossbow Expert and a +2 DEX? As a guy who's done the Crossbow Expert/Sharpshooter combo (and it IS devastating), you really don't want to be taking -5 to hit without maxing out your DEX first. You'll just miss too much for it to be worth it. Also, give some serious thought...

I agree that critting isn't the most impressive thing in this game, but it is awesome when you have the option to announce the act of smiting after you score a crit. That's when it makes a big difference. Edit: I probably still wouldn't add the champion levels though.

True. But let me flip the question back to you: what do you think is a better racial choice, from an optimization perspective, for a Paladin 2/Druid?

Thanks. I also like the half orc since the shape shifted attacks count as weapon attacks. Bonus damage on critical hits.

I'm pretty sure they errata'ed out the whole "Eldritch Blast as a reaction" thing from polearm master.

I saw this on the WotC boards and thought it was interesting, as I always loved Gambit. I also thought it might get some more exposure here. How would you build everybody's favorite Ragin' Cajun?
