WotC's 2017 Convention Schedule Includes New Hascon, No GenCon

No, nothing to laugh at in your post, it makes sense to me and is not what I was referring to. I am certainly not young, started playing decades ago, and my S.O would tell you I am certainly prone to nostalgia, so I get that. To me though, most of Gencon's history is much more disturbing to that...

WotC's 2017 Convention Schedule Includes New Hascon, No GenCon

I find the shock, disgust and dismay over Wotc not going to Gencon genuinely amusing, to the point where it has actually made me lol on occasion. I am otherwise a very sympathetic person, I swear, but certain varieties of nerd rage and/or indignation are hilarious to me on a visceral level.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Forums Should Be Ignored By Game Developers

Sure there are issue on twitter, but it's on twitter, not on their website.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Forums Should Be Ignored By Game Developers

I am still involved in the running of a few forums (non-rpg related), was more involved in the past. It is hard to moderate your way out of a toxic environment, investing time and money in that certainly has a terrible ROI. The tech ROI is not usually a huge problem, if things are run sensibly...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Forums Should Be Ignored By Game Developers

And yet Green Ronin recently said they were going to shut down their forums due to it's atmosphere (much like Wotc), I think they have reconsidered since then. While I have seen a lot of good things at "1st party" type forums over the years, I have seen them cause a lot of grief for fans and...

D&D 5E (2014) BattleMaster vs Champion, an analysis

Critical hits clearly states that it would apply; There is no way it would be affected.

D&D 5E (2014) BattleMaster vs Champion, an analysis

Glad we can agree the intent is clearly not to apply to other types of damage. It doesn't say "the attack's damage". It certainly doesn't use the "exact same wording" as critical hits... at all. Critical hits explicitly states "All of" then gives examples of how it applies to other forms of...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Forums Should Be Ignored By Game Developers

It would be a bad move for game developers to ignore forums, they can be useful. Mike Mearls mentioned in the pre-production of Volo's Guide to Monsters they scoured all of the forums to find lists of monsters not yet updated to 5e. Good use of crowd-sourcing. What they shouldn't do is look at...

D&D 5E (2014) BattleMaster vs Champion, an analysis

Mearls and Crawford have both said in the past that it is intended to apply to the weapon's damage dice, just like it is written. http://www.sageadvice.eu/2015/12/22/does-great-wepon-fighting-let-you-reroll-all-of-the-attacks-damage-dice/...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Grim subject. The death save rules actually are pretty representative of reality in this case, though I doubt they were designed for it. If someone's throat was slit, it would take them 18 seconds (3 rounds) to actually die, likely quite a bit longer. Depending on how badly the "throat was...

D&D 5E (2014) Points of Light setting and current cross-over strategy: Round peg in the square hole.

They didn't want to do "Generic" this time, they wanted "story" but they wanted it to be easy enough to move. FR is "generic" enough, and interesting enough, and also happened to have the most recognition. Using it was a good move IMO, as much as older players quibble about it. I don't love FR...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Players Should Not Play Champions

So, you agree that how useful it is depends entirely on the particular table in question? Or are we playing the game wrong if we play without the optional feats and multiclassing? What if we use skills other than acrobatics and athletics in combat, etc. What if we use the rules for skill checks...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Players Should Not Play Champions

It wouldn't be OP, can't see it getting much use, of course I see a feat that granted a guidance never being taken. 100% RA for me. If you use guidance on a stealth check, then anything you want to DO won't have that bonus. With RA you get bonus on the stealth, then bonus on breaking down...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Players Should Not Play Champions

Why not start off factually, it doesn't provide all the same benefits. Anyone, including the fighter can take the feat (if optional feats are allowed in that game), this doesn't devalue the ability in any way, since they stack. Nope, because guidance doesn't do the same things and RA doesn't...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Players Should Not Play Champions

Wait, so the fact that I could hypothetically have a Cleric in my party who could hypothetically choose this cantrip and cast it on me, thus making me even better at these checks is supposed to be a negative to this feature? Or is it the fact that they can cast it on another person, but not me...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is "broken" in 5e?

The game requires a bona fide GM (which includes someone who has never GM'd before but genuinely intends to do a good job) to function as intended. While this might not be "broken", it seems to clash with some people's preferences...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Yeah, that is the only way the "end of turn" part makes sense AFAICT. If someone wants to rule the spell as working that way all the power to them, but it is going to exacerbate the problems the OP has been referring to and is not the way the spell is intended to run. You are correct on how the...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Will they really "probably" not reach them in time to melee though? It depends on a huge number of circumstances. Most of the time, unless the caster is alone in their spell, the attacker will not have to travel 15ft to enter melee range, that is the absolute maximum. Even if they do, will not...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

I appreciate this math, I was "sure" the rules would produce results along those lines but my head is not all that clear, so I though I might be mistaken. So; Gnolls who are just outside of that radius when they start their turn will have an excellent chance to melee immediately. Gnolls that...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

I am ready to give up having any sort of meaningful conversation with you, but I will try just a little more. Sure, if you pick much weaker humanoids and have them also mindlessly march to their deaths, the spirit guardians will be able to take some or many of them down. I can see how the...
