    Ie7

Try looking for a plugin that gives more tab options. I don't know if there is one for IE7, but it seems reasonably likely.

Removing the "Revolving Door of Death"

Steal an idea from another game - Warhammer FRP, I think? Players get 3 tokens. If they're about to die, they spend their token and they miraculously live even when they should have died. Obviously, this involves a large bit of DM fiat, so make sure your players know they might wind up as...

    Any good hardware review/info sites?

I usually just go by newegg.com user reviews these days. Go to the right section and and sort by number of reviews. You'll have to dig through the cruft but if there's a persistent problem it will show up.

Anyone Use Portable External Harddrives? I Need Advice

You realize music, videos and pdfs are already compressed, right? Are you getting decent compression on them with WinRAR? I can't imagine the amount of time it takes to compress 93 GB is worth it, especially with hard drive prices these days. Also, doesn't compressing files make them more...

removing class & cross-class skills - convince me why this is a bad idea

In my current game, I kept cross class skills but removed the doubled cost for them. I also added another skill point to every class. Next game, I think I'll just drop class/cross-class altogether. The only thing it really affects (in terms of game balance) is when PrCs become available, and...

Anyone Use Portable External Harddrives? I Need Advice

After azhrei_fje mentioned he hadn't seen a price difference, I went and looked again. With external drive enclosures, I see a difference of almost nothing for the minor brands. If I was buying enclosures, I'd do that. But, when I go check the prices on similar models of LaCie and Simpletech...

Anyone Use Portable External Harddrives? I Need Advice

Well, except in price. You're paying a lot more for enclosures with both interfaces. I generally advise people to pass on firewire unless they specifically need speed or are working with huge amounts of data, like if they're using the drive for video editing. USB only works just fine for backups...

Dinosaurs as Animal Companions - Gamebreaker?

I would be surprised too, but I bet that it wasn't the only thing the guy had a problem with. It just doesn't seem like a serious enough thing to quit a game over. Looking back, were he and the other guy having fun before the dino rider got introduced? Maybe it was a "last straw" kind of thing...

    Wireless N laptops

I have actually seen equipment offer this guarantee, though I don't know exactly what that entails if the upgrade will require more than firmware. Supposedly the draft standard was "close enough" that they didn't expect any hardware changes, and that was about 6 months ago.

SKYPE, Ventrillo, or Teamspeak: which best with online tabletop games?

Ventrillo requires a server somewhere, if I'm not mistaken. Skype just requires everyone have a free account. I'm not sure about Teamspeak. Since skype is so easy and other have good experiences, I'd just try it first and only start looking for other options if it fails to meet your expectations.

Anyone Use Portable External Harddrives? I Need Advice

USB/firewire external drives use regular old hard drives inside them. The vast majority of hardware problems will be with the drives themselves, rather than the interfaces. Seagate drives come with a 5 year warranty - 2 years longer than anyone else. External HD enclosures are not normally...

    Wireless N laptops

I would wait as well, but if you really want to go for it, get one where the manufacturer guarantees that they'll be able to offer a firmware update to make it officially 802.11n compatible.

    gleemax login down?

Hm. When we do maintenance on our website, we generally post some notification on the front page. You know, instead of an error message. :\

    Why I hate puzzles

Trap shmap, that's a good idea. It rewards player intelligence, rewards character ability, and allows a way around in case everyone gets stuck. That particular choice of puzzle is also world-appropriate. That's another issue with puzzles that I didn't see come up in this thread. A lot of puzzles...

I lost an eye! (or, how to handle one-eyed characters in d20) CRUNCH

I'd say no mechanical penalty. It's cool backstory, not a punishment.

    X. It's what's for dinner.

My players have an unhealthy fixation on bacon. It started with dire boar bacon, but virtually any unintelligent monster they meet is a candidate for jerky, bacon, or at least dinner. Last game they tried basilisk. No side effects... so far.

Does anyone actually use house rules?

I have a game with even more house rules than this, but my players like it OK. My house rules are mostly for specific things, like "Tumble is an opposed check" and "everyone gets a bonus skill point". Your house rules in the first paragraph for "attacker always rolls" and "no opposed checks" are...

    Design & Development: Quests

Agreed. I think of the quests as being meta-objects. They don't exist in the game, they're just handy physical representations of something you were told verbally (or maybe you do have an in-game contract). I think the key is to keep the wording pretty general. You're summarizing the quest, not...

    Warlock Pirate

Zurai hit the high points. Warlocks should be great at sea. Just add some salty flavor to their abilities, like black tentacles using octopus-like tentacles.
