Ideas for a viking campaign needed

Thanks for your rplies, everyone! :D JQMayhem, I'm already a fan of the Order of the Stick, but I havn't really looked much at the rest of the site and had no idea it contained material for a viking setting. I need to have a look at that. PCrow; I'll check out the lost vikings, see what it's...

    I like Linnorms. Do you?

YRC! (You recall correctly) ;) They're at least very similar to linnorms. But before that, there were some linnorms in 3e's MM2. And for the record: Yes, I think linnorms are cool, but have not yet used them. I probably will in my next campaign though, which will have a viking-theme.

    I like Linnorms. Do you?

The linnorm from Norse myth was a unique creature, created by Odin himself. It had a serpent-like body; no legs, claws or wings, but it had an acid breathweapon. The Midgardorm (="world-wyrm") was a sea-serpent, so huge that it could stretch its body around the world and bite its own tale...

Ideas for a viking campaign needed

Ideas for a low-magic, viking-style campaign needed (long, I know...): My current campaign is nearing its end after four years. At this points the PCs have 30+ class levels, have ascended to divine rank 1 and are about to become the focal-point of major inter-planar war between the deities of...

    a Proposition

As long as your DM knows the game well enough to take your less-than-standard equipment into consideration you have nothing to worry about. Either he will be extra generous in the future or he'll make encounters that little bit easier for you. Or he's figured you'll just have to tough it out for...

    The rules of EN World

I was afraid of that! ;) I agree EN World is still among the best (or even THE best! :D ) boards out there. It's just not quite as good as it used to be, IMHO.

    The rules of EN World

Let me clearify then: "Regulars" was intended to mean anyone who posts/lurks here regularly; even if he/she hasn't been doing so for very long. Only my last question was aimed at the "longtimers". :)

    The rules of EN World

Can't say that I've seen Hong being anything but respectful to Eric's grandma. ;) Nor will I name anybody else here. There are a few posters however, whom I'm always surprised to see. Ones that make think "Wow! The moderators still havn't been kicked him/her out!?!" edit: spelling

    The rules of EN World

How many of the regulars in here have actually taken the time to read the rules for these boards? It seems to me that the tone of these boards have changed quite a bit the last few years. There used to be a lot more respect for our beloved grandmothers, IMHO. :\ How do you other long-timers...

cold spell in a cold land... why?

I was wondering the same thing and started that thread Tarchon posted a link to. To me, the responses were shocking. (Check it out!) I've never seen so much anger and outrage on these boards before. Appearantly following the "theme" is a very sacred cow to a lot of people and anyone who thinks...

    Giving Fighters Another Class Skill

Any of those skills could be useful and make sense for certain fighters to have, but what every fighter needs is some knowledge of first aid; i.e. the Heal skill. Also, Profession should be a class skill for all classes; except perhaps the barbarian.

Throwing in NPCs to help along small parties

Even if there are 5 players (plus me, the DM) we never game unless everybody can make it. Every character is important to the story and I'm uncomfortable with letting player A making descisions for player B's character. Sometimes a player has to leave an hour early or arrives an hour later than...

    Holy item destruction

Strictly within the 3.5 rules ANY weapon can be used to sunder any other weapon. In other words, you can pick up a branch in the woods, fashion it into a crude club and start sundering epic unholy adamantine greatswords. I'm sure a lot of people would want to make some houserules abouth this...

Why would a frost giant have a frost weapon?

I still feel that a world where fire melts ice is more realistic than one where it doesn't. As for the whole glaciers on iceland thing, that's matter of some debate. A glacier is supposedly a permanent body of ice and snow, right? Those few tiny "glaciers" on Iceland melt away whenever they get...

Why would a frost giant have a frost weapon?

    Yes. The point.

Why would a frost giant have a frost weapon?

Couldn't agree more! I'm completely stunned by what this thread has turned into. It's amazing how angry people can get if you happen to shake their preconcieved notions.

Why would a frost giant have a frost weapon?

You're right, I forgot. There are a few tiny, scattered glaciers, out close to the ocean, furthest from the volcanoes. There's a big difference between hot water and molted rock! Even if they're related phenomenae.

Why would a frost giant have a frost weapon?

Ice within meters of a lava flow is not possible. Not for long anyway. ;) I agree the statement, viewed isolated, does not prevent there being a hefty layer of bedrock between them. If you read the rest of that post though, you'll see that the it was made to show how frostgiant and firegiant...

Why would a frost giant have a frost weapon?

Iceland - Doesn't have a single glacier; due to all the volcanic activity Mt. ST. Helens - Was covered with snow before it erupted... Your other examples are just hot springs, not volcanoes.

Why would a frost giant have a frost weapon?

I don't think your argument is quite valid here. What a creature IS and what it chooses to use are to different things. Sure, elves have pointy ears in my campaign world too, but not every elf in my world carries a longbow! Some actually prefer other weapons. I realize that elves don't have a...
