The Nav'i Language and Gamer Culture

I just want to know when I can get my USB braid to connect to the internets. ;)

    Tough Minion variation

Welcome to ENWorld. Steal away, that's what the forum is for! And your tough minions are pretty much what I was looking for as well; guys that would die in two normal hits from at-wills, but could be one-shotted with a big hit. No tracking required for any of it.

    Tough Minion variation

That's a great idea as well. I will take a look at the typical numbers and see how that compares to 2*level +10. I think it will be a little lower, but that could be all to the good since my initial value may have been just a bit too high. My objective with these guys is that they are...

    Push/Slide over a ledge?

Generally I'd make a railing give a bonus to the save vs being pushed off, the size of the bonus depending on the type and height of the railing. If the railing were high and solid enough, it could be counted as Blocking Terrain, but that would be a really tall railing, more akin to a wall...

Help me make WotC adventures better.

It took me awhile, but here goes. Until lately, things have been too busy for me to give this the kind of reply it deserves, sorry for not responding sooner. To establish some background: I've played RPG's for 27 years, and have been DM'ing nearly that long. I'm currently running through a...

    Studying (Intelligence Skill Training)

I will concede that the time requirement does interfere with adventures in older editions, and was something we hand-waved most of the time even then. I don't mind letting people pick up new skills and just retroactively saying they'd been studying it for some amount of time prior to taking the...

    Tough Minion variation

Great idea, I'll keep that in mind when making more of these. Given combat advantage, the rogue does the most at 3d8+9 with sly flourish (+2 rapier, backstabber feat, dex, cha). I think the sorcerer/warlock hybrid can only dish out 22 max with an at-will (d10 + bonuses). The seeker can do...

    Tough Minion variation

There's no one thread that I can recall. Others have posted about using 2 hit minions (tough minions), damage thresholds, and other variations. I can't credit any single person. I just took a couple of these ideas and ran with it.

    Studying (Intelligence Skill Training)

I like the general concept of allowing learning by studying, but you do have to be careful for the reasons you stated. The group quite likely would share books around, and all gain the requisite skill if they wanted it. I'd also require more time to study any given book. 4 rests is 24-32...

    Tough Minion variation

I've read all kinds of great ideas here on how to speed up combats, and reduce the grind. The minion mechanic is a great place to start for that, but as we all know, minions often don't last long enough to do much. A single Scorching Burst, and *poof* they fall down. Waves of them can be...

    Heroic Tier Petrification

It does sound fun. Tell us how it goes, I'm looking forward to hearing about it. My group enjoys puzzles like this, so if it goes well, I'd like to steal it! Thanks.

    The Slenderman

An interesting concept that would fit well with gritty horror settings. I think the Come Home with Me power is not balanced however. There's a good chance it will have a couple of dazed or dominated targets to effect with this at any given point. Auto-hitting them (if dominated) at reach 4...

Giving a choice of stats to older races

The ultimate fighter: Dwarves I really like the idea of granting a choice between two stats for their second bonus to the pre-PH3 races. My concern is that the obvious choice of Str for dwarves really does make them too good as fighters. They'd have Con and Str, and Dwarven weapon training...

Preliminary idea: Humanoid monster Hit Point-shaving.

Many DM's reduce the HP of all enemies, as well as increasing their damage output. This helps speed up encounters, but keeps the enemies dangerous. I wouldn't pick one monster type to reduce hit points on while leaving the others alone. Perhaps the lack of verisimilitude bothers you with...

I need a nice, heavy light blade ;)

Rapiers have an edge on them, and the blade is probably an inch or so wide, if I recall from the ones I've seen in museums. Rapiers aren't epees or foils, they were just skinny swords with a better hand guard than your typical broadsword. They were used for slashing and draw cuts as well as...

    Does the shardmind seem overpowered?

They have: • Telepathy so they can communicate with anything that has a language • Three starting languages • Encounter teleport that also gives them combat advantage against foes they were adjacent to • +2 to three different skills • No need to eat, breathe, sleep, drink, and resulting...

    There's something about Runepriests.

Should runepriests use Int? Don't we already have the strength cleric for some of this stuff? I realize the runepriest is more about adding bonuses to their allies rather than healing, but Int seems to fit better in there than strength, plus we already have the str/wis cleric. How about a...

Does healer's armor stack with a healer's brooch?

The enhancement bonus wording is just as Nichwee states, in my opinion. It's a way of saying "that number which is equal to the bonus on your weapon / item", not a bonus type. It might be nice if it implied a typed bonus, so that they didn't stack, but I don't personally read it that way.

Does healer's armor stack with a healer's brooch?

Or you can houserule the entire mess by saying that all bonuses granted by items are item bonuses, and don't stack with each other. I'm tempted to do that because these stacking bonuses to heals are ridiculous. It doesn't help LFR games, but that's WotC's mess to deal with (if they choose to...

Death Wight: The Return of Level Drain

If you do introduce level draining creatures, the power needs to be a recharge or encounter power, on a non-soldier creature. Make it easier to take them out of the picture. It also needs to be much higher than level 4 - say paragon tier minimum. I dislike level drain as a mechanic and...
