    Sci-Fi Channel's "Grendel": Quadruple Crossbow???

Again with the Ladyhawke reference. Looks like there's a movie I'll have to watch. When was this, '85? Have double or more crossbows ever been given stats in D&D? Thanks again!

    Sci-Fi Channel's "Grendel": Quadruple Crossbow???

That's priceless! But seriously, I believe a Paladin should ONLY employ a ranged weapon in extreme emergencies. Such as, there's a flying creature that CANNOT be engaged in hand to hand combat, but the Paladin has no choice because he has to defend the populace, that sort of thing. But if the...

    Sci-Fi Channel's "Grendel": Quadruple Crossbow???

Yeah, I pretty much thought the same thing. But hey, at least it was better than "Raptor Island!"

    Sci-Fi Channel's "Grendel": Quadruple Crossbow???

Hey, props to you! You're the only one who actually answered my question! As for the rest of you..... Do you mean to say you have your Paladins who go around with ranged weapons?! I've got news for you.....your powers are GONE!

    Sci-Fi Channel's "Grendel": Quadruple Crossbow???

That is correct! When in doubt, I defer to Gygaxian logic. Paladins SHOULD ONLY engage in combat at close range. Anything less veers in the direction of cowardice, thus subjecting the Paladin's charisma score to diminishment, thus threatening the Paladin's "Paladin-ness".

    Sci-Fi Channel's "Grendel": Quadruple Crossbow???

I had a DM once who insisted that our NPC nemesis wielded a "double crossbow". Nevermind the fact that the guy was supposed to be a Paladin and, as such, shouldn't be using ranged weapons anyway. That aside, I was never able to fully comprehend the DM's explanation of what he described as "two...

    ID this monster!

Oddly enough, when I saw Drew's "square eyes" reference, I immediately thought of the Kelmain, despite not having read that entry for at least 6 or 7 years. Odder still, I purchased and read (what I thought) was the entire Elric saga (again, 6 or 7 years ago). However, I can recall absolutely...

If an "archer" is a bow specialist, what's a crossbow specialist?

Well, as I attempted to explain a few posts above, the term "arbalesteer" would best be used ONLY in reference to specialists of the heavy crossbow.

I was unaware there were different versions of Basic Dungeons & Dragons.

If an "archer" is a bow specialist, what's a crossbow specialist?

Further to this, Wiki mentions something called an "arcuballista", but sadly, there's no actual entry. Interestingly, this is phonetically very close to 2E's "arquebus".

If an "archer" is a bow specialist, what's a crossbow specialist?

Not trying to be a killjoy or anything but, from reading my not-so-handy 10 lb. Webster's Dictionary and perusing the not-always-accurate Wikipedia source, it appears that the term "arbalest" is most closely associated with *heavy* crossbows. Thus, any class termed an arbalest would not, by...

If an "archer" is a bow specialist, what's a crossbow specialist?

Or 'quarrelier', even! I must say, that's one that never struck me!

Defining, yes, but just not cool enough! ;)

Ah, thanks for that! See, this is what I get for not keeping up with the current out-pouring of D&D material: rules ignorance.

If an "archer" is a bow specialist, what's a crossbow specialist?

Yeah, 'marksman' was what I was thinking of, too. I just wanted to see if I was the only one! :-) Of course, there's also 'sniper' and (if I may be so bold) 'boltist'. Bolt caster?

Also an archer, or is there a specific name for a crossbow specialist?

Hopefully, this'll be my last one: Rift Rover Though don't be afraid to toy with such words as "gap" or "sieve" or "fabric" or "navigator" or "pilot". Rift Courser or Rift Pilot or Rift Trekker or Gap Treader or Slip Strider are other random options. Have I leant too much of my existence to...

There should be a feat whose sole purpose is rogue-like skill efficiency. You use the feat to select either 1) skills you would not ordinarily have, or 2) skill points you would not ordinarily have. Now, I'm no rules-maven by any stretch of the imagination. But tell me, is what I'm talking...
