If an "archer" is a bow specialist, what's a crossbow specialist?

Marksman i think is better. But crossbows really are not that good unless the character has no STR and even then the crossbow is more of a crutch.

Maybe Artiliarist for those who fire balistas, though even those are kinda gimpy for the damage they should be doing.

Yeah, 'marksman' was what I was thinking of, too. I just wanted to see if I was the only one!

Of course, there's also 'sniper' and (if I may be so bold) 'boltist'.

The historical term is crossbowman or arbalestier.

Like many otherwise suboptimal weapons-of-choice, the crossbowman really needs a prestige class, perhaps balancing the slow rate of fire with the ability to inflict extra damage and ignore armor.
