WotC What MTG/D&D crossover material would you want to see?

"The vampires have captured you." "Oh that's bad." "They place you on a throne and refer to you as 'Your Majesty.'" "That's good!" ""The throne has arm and leg restraints." "That's bad." "The vampires will follow any order you give." "That's good!" "For three days. Then they eat you." "Can I go...

WotC What MTG/D&D crossover material would you want to see?

Honestly the whole Dark - Fallen Empires - Ice Age - Alliances - Coldsnap era would be great.

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

Oh, I have a sneaking suspicion X-Men '97 is going to be in the MCU multiverse somewhere.

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

Well conveniently enough the rules aren't all that unique or convoluted. It'd be fairly easy to make a good knockoff without getting sued, probably. Really? That's surprising to me. Rules seem pretty intuitive and easy to grasp. But then I am very much a gamer.

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

Bingo. MSHAG would be a great one to bring back - cards = more art. The system was fantastic too, years ahead of its time. Marvel could probably buy it from Hasbro for a song. Exactly. "Dethrone D&D" was a bit of a hyperbole but damned if an actually good Marvel RPG (or an accessible Star Wars...

I'm not suggesting anyone start bombarding the guy with requests. Please don't anyone do that.

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

Eh, maybe. Marvel Heroic came out in early 2012, before the first Avengers movie propelled the MCU into the cultural juggernaut it is today. D&D was a fifth as big as it is now and nobody outside the TTRPG industry really knew anything about it. The 4e kerfuffle was mostly over and the Next...

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

Yep. Literally a fresh coat of paint on that with new art and a tie-in to Marvel Studios' latest saga could have toppled D&D from the #1 spot. But they had to have their proprietary in-house "616" system with more tables and subsystems than RIFTS and GURPS put together.

Marvel Multiverse RPG Brought Forward & New X-Men Expansion

Ooof. Swing and a miss from Marvel here. The preview rules were straight out of an 80s heartbreaker and I can't imagine they'll change enough on full release to improve the multiple massive issues with the core mechanics. This would have been the perfect time to release a new entry point for a...

D&D General What are the coolest/most innovative mechanics D&D could take from other games?

Boons cancel Banes out 1:1, so you can't ever have both. You can, however, stack them with themselves. A Boon or Bane adds or subtracts 1d6 to/from your d20 roll. If you have multiple then you take the highest roll and use that. So 3 Boons rolling 2, 4, and 5 would add 5 to your d20 roll.

Ryan Dancy live stream about WotCs surprising change.

Big takeaway: If you want anything more than they've already given us, find someone high up within WotC to champion it. Jeremy Crawford seems like a good candidate to lobby for older editions being added to the CC-BY license as he worked on some OGL d20 books and contributed to a whole bunch of 4e.

D&D General What are the coolest/most innovative mechanics D&D could take from other games?

Personally, I consider Shadow of the Demon Lord's Boons and Banes to be a better take on advantage/disadvantage. Blades in the Dark's clocks are an elegant evolution of the skill challenge mechanic (which I can't understand why 5e dropped after years of iteration and improvement), and 4e making...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4e (DnD: Tactics) remake wish list.

    1. There's already 46 classes. I'm not convinced we need more. 2. The distinction between "caster" and "non-caster" is utterly meaningless in 4e. 3. Even if it weren't a meaningless distinction, splitting the one "non-caster" source into multiple doesn't solve the problem; anything that can be...
