    Chinese vs. Japanese

Well, since I'm a linguistics major doing a minor in Japanese and currently studying Chinese I'm obligated to reply. First of all Chinese is an isolating language. That means that there are no inflectional endings on words. In English we add endings to show tense and aspect. For example the...

    monotheism in D&D

Well, in my homebrew that I've been working on for some time I'm using a monotheistic model. First of all I decided to make true clerics (who can cast spells) rare. This fits with the low magic theme of the campaign (although not 'grim-n-gritty', characters are still larger than life). Most...

Is the Greatsword the ultimate weapon?

No, greatswords aren't the ultimate weapon! Everyone knows that fullblades (from Sword and Fist and Arms and Equipment Guide) are the ultimate weapon!

Rap and Hip-Hop at the game table?

I just got a new idea for a character concept - a rapping bard! No more wussy lute playing bards, my bard will be a hard core gangsta' rapper! :D

I am addicted to D20 products... Help...

I admit that I have a problem buying rpg books. I just see a book that looks cool and have to buy it. I've seriously spent way to much money on rpg books! So, I decided to cut back a little and give up buying rpg books (or even entering my FLGS for that matter) for Lent.

    LARPs?

I've never actually played in a LARP, but there is a vampire LARP that goes on every Saturday evening in the student center of my university. I've observed it on occasions, but it just doesn't seem to be my thing. However, if I could get a group together to play Hunters(tm) and shake things up...

What is 3.0 & 3.5 missing that previous editions had?

There are a few things that I miss about the previous editions. 1. The artwork. It was high fantasy and medieval. It really set a heroic tone for the game. Now a lot of the art looks silly. Why do all the adventurers in 3e look like they're wearing bondage or S/M clothing? 2. Sages - I...

    Has 3.5E "failed"?

As much as I want to rant about how much "3.$ sucks", I'll keep my personal opinions aside to keep this thread on topic. I hardly think that 3.5e can be considered a failure. Afterall, from what I've heard it sold remarkably well. The real question is has it fractured the D&D community? I...

    Do you like rules-heavy systems?

I personally like rules-heavy games. To often in the rule-light games that I've played in, most situations that my character got in were arbitrated by an arbitrary and often inconsistant ruling of the GM. Of course, I suppose that it may just be the GM and players. Still, it seems to me that...

    The aferlife in your world....

Since my homebrew uses a quasi-Judeo-Christian theology, my world has a heaven and a hell. Beyond that, not much more is thought up about it.

    Converting 3.5e back to 3e

Although, much of 3.5e doesn't take a lot of work to convert, there are several problem areas. 1. Spells: 3.5e changed almost all the spells. Many spells changed levels making it difficult to convert spell casting characters. 2. Monsters - specifically, monsters with DR. DR was changed in...

    Converting 3.5e back to 3e

I mainly play with people who refuse to switch to 3.5e. In fact they want nothing to do with 3.5e! Since every d20 product written since June has been written for 3.5e, this leaves me with the uncomfortable task of converting everything if I want to use any newer product. I recently traded in...

Am I the only one who does not like the Great Wheel?

I have never liked the ideas of planes in the first place. All the metaphysics seem always seemed a tad to weird for my tastes. Moreover, I really think the idea of plane hopping really disrupts from the faux-medieval atmosphere. Characters going from plane to plane really seems more along...

    D&D 4E Let's Make 4E!! (Brainstorming)

Well, I would like to see 4e drop the horrible (IMHO) 3.5e weapon size rules.

[Serious] Help, I'm addicted to buying RPG books!

I've had a problem this problem for some time, but I've never realized the extent of it. It seems like I have to continously purchase the newest rpg books. Being a college student, my only real source of income is my campus job. Yesterday, when I walked into the local gaming store I ended up...

    Looking for Pirate Music

Well I don't know what you think about video game midis, but I always found the Final Fantasy 5 pirate theme to be excellent. Here are two different midi files http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/FF5_pirat.mid http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/Pirates_ahoy.mid

What is your favorite D&D Class and why?

Barbarian, deffinately the barbarian. Wizards and Sorcerers are cool, but they are very physically weak, so it takes an advanced player to play them effectively. Barbarians are for people like me who just want to get into combat, go into BARBARIAN RAGE, and smash things! :D

    Why don't you buy modules?

I don't buy them. To many modules are very setting specific. Since I run a homebrew game, I find it hard to integrate them in my campaign. Even fairly generic modules still come with a fair set of assumptions.

cry havoc or fields of blood

Well Fields of Blood focuses much more on HUGE battles. The smallest unit size is 100 soldiers. Consequently, individual PCs tend to be relegated to the role of commander (although there are some rules for having PCs fight on the battlefield). It also includes a lot of information about...
