    Favorite Familiars or Animal Companions

I'll second that. As for familiars, nothing I've played beats an Improved Familiar Air Mephit with a hat of disguise for sheer troublemaking potential... Though Ravens are the next best.

    Eschew Materials??

I love eschew materials. This is strictly hosuerule territory, but I dislike material components, so I let all casters get cheap access to equipment that duplicates the effects of this feat: Magic wands. Not like the kind you can craft, but the classical kinds of magic wands, that wizards use...

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Avatar: The Last Airbender

I don't watch much Nickelodeon, really (my daughter's more of a PBS kids kind of gal), but I caught the first 4 episodes the other night. It's a really imaginative series. Aang is a great leading character (as a believable 12-year-old reincarnated master), the whole element-magic is neat, even...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince point of discussion (Spoilers)

I'm also in the camp that says that Dumbledore is only mostly dead. The phoenix imagery surrounding him is too strong to ignore. I'm not sure in what way he will come back, but he WILL come back. Several thought about what being "dead" gives him: He's become a portrait in the headmaster's...

    Hoodwinked

This looks pretty good. The Animation is so-so, but it's got Patrick Warbuton playing the big, bad wolf. You can't go wrong... Silly question, though. As far as I could tell, it's not linked through the main apple.com/trailers page, you can only link to it by typing in the link directly...

    Explain Harry Potter to me

The thing that helped me "get" the Harry Potter books more than anything else is the fact that they are written for kids. The first book, especially, had a very Roald Dahl kind of feel to it (Wille Wonka, James and the Giant Peach, etc). It's a little dark, a little absurd, and the kids seem...

    Barnes & Noble's D&D Online Course

Regardless of whether they're making money from selling the textbooks, it's a great idea for all parties involved. It's great advertising, and may be a great venue to bring in new players. Even if theyre not making a lot of money off the texts, I wouldn't be surpirsed to hear that WotC is...

    Planet of the Priests

I ran this campaign once...sort of... I had a similar set-up as you describe, with very hands-on deities and everyone having some small degree of Clerical power. Had the players make characters accordingly, but warned them there was going to be a twist. The first thing that happened was the...

Does anyone else not like Anne Mcaffery's books?

That pretty well sums up my opinion of McCaffery...I actually really like the Pern setting, don't really like the characters and plotlines she's populated it with. I've often thought that Pern could make a really interesting D&D setting, actually. Kind of a different slant on territiry that...

Can any author here compete with this brilliance?

This is Stephen Colbert, as in ex-daily-show, "The Colbert Report" Stephen Colbert? Or are there other, previously undiscovered, Stephen Colberts lurking on the inter-nets?

    Please..forgive me

Thankfully, it won't play for me. I've been spared!

Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg

Favorite episode of Darkwing Duck was when he was whisked away to Comet Guy's word, where veryone had super-powers. Darkwing was venerated as "Ordinary Guy", the only one in the world who had no powers, so the only one eligible for being rescued by the super heroes. Good times... Duck Tales...

    Favorite Animal Companion

I picked horse, but what I really meant was Stag. But since there's no actual game stats for a stag, I just use a light horse with a d6 Gore attack rather than a bite. Riding into combat on the back of an Animal-growthed, advanced stag just seems more...druidic.

The 'What D&D character are you?' test...

Neutral Good, Elven mage/bard, apparently. I can live with that. I think I'll shoot for Arcane Trickster when I level up... The fun's in the details, though. I'm Elf over Gnome by only 1 point (8elf, 7gnome). I'm almost a ranger, but I scored a -7 on Paladin! Could it have something to do...

    Elves and Insects?

It's signifigant that elves when elves are associated with insects, it's always the graceful, beautiful insects (like butteflies). You usually don't see elves associated with dung beetles, or maggots/flies.

How much does a road cost?

Ignoring the historical, in a D&D world roads would are pretty easy to hand-wave. One high-level court magician with knowledge: engineering, Wall of Stone and Stone shape. As mentioned, Disintegrate wouldn't hurt. With very little effort... *poof*...there's a road. The rich places would...

Help on Bard Build - It's a matter of pride, folks.

Like this idea, but as long as you're at it, I'd recommend adding a Flaming, or Shocking effect to the gloves, in addition to the normal plus to hit and damage. The extra damage from the energy effect helps (in many cases) to mitigate the fact that daggers don't pack a lot of punch.

Which monsters (or closely related groups of monsters) make the best campaign theme?

I haven't gotten to run it yet, but I've been building up a campaign with dragons as the central theme/baddies. I think it will work pretty well, but even focusing on the low cr dragon stages, it's shaping up to be pretty high-powered...

    How weak is 5 str??

A 5 strength is very low, especially for a Small character. Your Light Encumberance will be 12 lbs. By the book, a scholar's robe, spellbook, components pouch, backpack and a staff will put you into a medium load. That said, take it anyway. The low strength won't really hinder you and there...

Terry Pratchett doesn't like JK Rowling

-DingDingDing! I think that's it exactly. She went into it with the mindset of "I'm writing a kid's book". What genre of kid's book it fit into didn't even get considered; children's literature WAS the genre. Keep in mind that this was JK Rowling's first outing into the children's...
