D&D 5E (2014) Is sneak attack damage divided by 2 when you Dual Wield?

I'll give some dpr numbers to try to get some perspective. VS AC 15 Baseline fighter, lvl 1, 18 str, 2-h: 7.1 dpr, 2.4 for deadly strike, total 9.5 dpr. Same fighter with advantage (slightly less if you roll one attack at a time): 10.38 dps main + 3.54 DS, total 13.92. Base line lvl 1 rogue...

D&D 5E (2014) Is sneak attack damage divided by 2 when you Dual Wield?

Yeah but adding sneak attack twice and deadly strike dices twice is a bit more complicated for not much gain imo. Also as a speciality, it has to give you something, even if it's a small something. Later I'll post some numbers on some of the scenario I made the dps spreadsheet for those cases...

D&D 5E (2014) Is sneak attack damage divided by 2 when you Dual Wield?

That's my current idea, it would make DW pretty good for rogues, useless or very bad for fighters. It's kinda strange. The rule about critical hits kinda make me think it's still unclear how it work. Do you roll both dices at the same time? 1 at a time? It's alot stronger if you roll both...

D&D 5E (2014) Is sneak attack damage divided by 2 when you Dual Wield?

The relevant rules: DW Benefit: you can make two attacks as an action, one with each weapon. All the damage of each of these attacks is halved. Deadly Strike: Benefit: When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can spend expertise dice to add to the attack’s damage against that creature...

So, about defenses aka. PHB2 defenses feats

They already tell us in the DM guide what the "expected" balance is. When you design defenses AC is always 2 points higher then NAD defenses for most types. Soldiers have AC 4 pts higher then NAD and Brute and Artillery have lower AC equal to their nads. The basic NAD defense of every monster...

    Buffing Solo Monsters

The lvl 12 solo hydra seem to be particularly weak. Unless you put it against a lower level party there is not much chance it can actually do anything it seem and it make for a pretty boring fight straight up. I was looking for a lower level hydra myself and decided to go with a 3 headed hydras...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

I had never really looked into warlock before but yeah, strangely warlocks have a much much better control spell with Dire Radiance then what wizards have. With a +1 damage feat and 20 consti you would do only 7.2 dpr with it if the target doesn't move toward you but if it does, you would do...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

Your calculations seems off. 9.35 is the number you get if you don't take account the critical damage. The number you really are looking for is 9.6dpr. I could try to check all your numbers but here is the main thing you have to see with this. Wizards have a grand total of 1 feat they can...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

Actually let's do more then just face it, let's give actual numbers. Strangely due to the way cloud of daggers work it will do the most damage with the highest wisdom, not the highest hit. Since "auto hit" damage is worth nearly double normal damage each point of wisdom is worth double each...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

As a war wizard their at-will do really bad damage though. They don't have enough feats they can take compared to other classes and they do less then half of the damage strikers do unless they manage to get 2-3 targets. Not exactly great dpr material.

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

Barbarians "striker" bonus is kinda built in Howling Strike and the rage mechanism but it's pretty much there. The concept is essentially you deal weapon damage + stats + 1d6. As for what would define a controller. Nothing really prevent some kind of unified mechanic to work for controllers...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

I didn't exactly say that wizard in particular don't have anything special but that controllers don't. If you look at the invokers they don't seem to have any flexibilty or spellbook or anything that would lead us to believe it's a "feature" of controllers. But honestly if we have to look for...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

Even if it doesn't his idea is still good. In fact I was thinking about that lately. Possibly in another thread but here is a quick rundown of the "problem". In short the whole system is balanced between roles. Everyone is able to do a base attack that use their stats and they all have...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

Magic Missile is about half striker damage (6.75dpr vs 12-15dpr for strikers). You need to constantly hit 2 targets with something like scorching burst to do "near" what a ranger would do with a twin strike + quarry attack or what a rogue would do with a sneak attack. Each 1d6 + 6 damage is...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

We had a wizard initially but we found it pretty weak overall. He was doing ok vs minions but we had a few cases of AE hitting the party that turned out to be pretty bad overall. When he used flaming sphere at a start of a big fight he ruled that fight, but that was probably more having to do...
