I'm still a a a bit nervous about what the OGL will say regarding the use of the monster creation rules in the DMG. Using them to create monsters that you publish: fine. But will it be legal to make a "monster generator" using role-based information such as HP / Attack / DMG ranges etc.

I think that monsters simply die at 0hp and you won't track negative hp for them at all. So 0 and -x would be the same for monsters.
