    Boccob's Blessed Book

My DM (Caliber) just pointed out that you can make a Spellcraft check at Spell Level + 15 to prepare a spell from another wizard's spellbook. If you have enough ranks in Spellcraft, this can alleviate quite a bit of the scribing burden. -Ryan

    Boccob's Blessed Book

In my eyes, the other real advantage of a wizard over sorcerer (besides flexibility) is the free feats. However, they must be metamagic feats (or item creation, etc.), and sorcerers seem to get more mileage out of those metamagic feats. I used to think sorcerers weren't very good compared to...

    Boccob's Blessed Book

How prohibitive are the scribing costs, really? I mean, given the amount of gold a character is supposed to have at a certain level, will a wizard end up spending too much money scribing spells? As a newbie wizard-player, I don't know the figures, but this concerns me. -Ryan

Ignoble Death by Ray of Frost!?!

Guess it depends on whether you interpret touch attacks as automatically going through armor, or as dissipating through the creature when any part of it is touched. I always went with the latter explanation. -Ryan

Ignoble Death by Ray of Frost!?!

Actually, you're absolutely right. Since I'm neither a DM nor a Rogue-player, this really does not matter at all to me :) -Ryan

Ignoble Death by Ray of Frost!?!

True, a Ray of Frost to the face would hurt. However, you would think that hitting someone in the face would require the bypassing of armor, therefore requiring a standard attack roll at the very least. Instead, they get something easier than a standard attack roll. It's an interesting...

Ignoble Death by Ray of Frost!?!

It does seem kind of lame that you can get sneak attack damage with a touch attack. If the attack doesn't even have to penetrate armor, how are you nailing a vital organ? -Ryan

How fast to level up in game time?

Agreed. Every other game session feels about right to me, and that's how it's worked in every 3E game I've played (all two of them, at any rate). -Ryan

How fast to level up in game time?

In game-world time, the group I play with has been levelling up at the alarming rate of approximately 1 lvl / 2 days. Seems awfully fast, but as far as I know our DM is "by-the-book". Of course, we are working through the Heart of Nightfang Spire and all we do is fight, more or less. -Ryan

    Why does Ice Storm suck?

My wizard PC took Ice Storm because there didn't seem to be many damage spells at 4th level. It's been useful. -Ryan

[OT] Why is Anime so popular???

I used to like anime a lot when I was younger. I think I know why. Anime and manga tend to focus more on, and do a better job with, interpersonal relationships between young characters than similar American forms of entertainment. I honestly can't think of an American medium which portrays...

Critical - Multiply or Roll Again?

Oh, and to answer the question: I roll. It's the way you're supposed to do it in 3e, and it's more fun to boot! More dice = more fun. Except maybe vehicle mounted canons in Dragonstar. That got tedious. -Ryan

Critical - Multiply or Roll Again?

Err, statistically there should be no difference between multiplying and rolling again over the course of sufficiently many die rolls. I don't see how some people are concluding otherwise?? -Ryan

I turned a friend on to the SONG OF ICE & FIRE series (SPOILERS)

I think Tyrion Lannister should be one of the top 10 sci-fi/fantasy characters of all time. Boy howdy, is this series good. -Ryan

    Core book reprintings - Pronunciation

I'm no gaeilge expert, but I think "gyass" is correct. "Gaes" would be pronounced "gaysh", but we're talking "geas", right? -Ryan
