Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

Quiet Dante, the adults are talking. I've provided plenty of reasonable arguments for my end, I'm still waiting for U_K to make a single one for his. And in case you missed it, we're not arguing over the actual "cloak" shape of the item, but whether things that give a resistance bonus to saves...

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

Yeah.... and they have equal amounts of that, and equal amounts of non-metagame flavor. I'm still not seeing any kind of logical explanation for why cloaks of resistance are any worse than weapons and armor.

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

So.... how is "magic cloak that protects you from harm" any more or less metagamey than "adamantine sword enchanted to cut better?"

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

Are weapon sold as "+6 swords?" If not, then there is no reason besides your irrational bias to assume that cloaks of resistance are referred to as such. It's simply common knowledge that they come in more than one level of power, just like, oh, every other magic item.

No. If it were standard, why would it be in the template? Or did you mean as a monster rule of thumb?

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

*sigh* Why do you insist on misinterpreting it, Krusty? A cloak of resistance does exactly that; make you more resistant to various damaging effects. Just like a +5 sword makes you better at hitting things, a headband of intellect makes you smarter, and a ring of protection or bracers of...

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

I believe that's called "dodging the question." Am I to take this as an admission of defeat? Because ideally, that little thought exercise is the very definition of roleplaying.

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Looked at properly, it actually enhances the believability of the game. How's that, you ask? Imagine, if you will, that you are an adventurer. Not a player controlling a fictional adventurer, but a real, flesh and blood denizen of the D&D cosmology, and...

"Defend yourself" in d20 just means that you don't lose your Dex to AC.

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

It's not mundane, and it's not underpriced, it's necessary. Don't believe me? Check the ELH. A non-minmaxed character, with a cloak of resistance that doesn't take up a huge portion of his wealth, is laughably far behind the save DCs of anything at his own CR. Calling it metagaming (which...

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

I don't see how wanting to be better able to survive the vast majority of afflictions, spells, and supernatural attacks that you know, without a doubt, WILL be thrown at you throughout your career is any way metagaming. Seems like something any character with a gram of sense (or allies with a...

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

I'll take that a step further; Dante, have you ever even played D&D at all? You seem to have only a very tenuous grasp on the rules, and statements like the one you just made aren't improving that image any.

Immortals Handbook - Epic Bestiary (Epic Monster Discussion)

The devil you say? I would think both are extremely undesirable. The former is the current situation, and it makes any form of attack that offers a save a non-option, unless you have a way to really twink out your DCs, or the enemy has neglected his saves to the point of idiocy. Shouldn't...

What would Auric's items look like if he had full wealth levels? I'm glad you asked. Bahamut's Roar: +16.8 (+12 base enhancement) +11.2 (holy power) +5.6 (sonic flare) +1.4 (dragon bane) +1 for Improved Critical +6 (spell-like abilities; at-will heal, blessed sight, detect dragonblood) -6...

Missed this earlier. So.... they can't scream loud enough to deafen somebody until after 20th, but.... they can bring back the souls of the dead from their eternal rest at 10th? Please tell me I'm not the only one to see the contradiction here.

    New/Revised Prestige Classes

I agree with everything Phantom Llama said. Aphopenia should be a choice, given at first level. I don't want every barbarian taking Improved Finesse as their first Epic feat. Oh, and the Iconic shouldn't be something with racial HD or LA.

    New/Revised Prestige Classes

I find it difficult to express my dislike for the Roar and especially Summon Ancestor Spirits ability. The first kind of makes sense, but.... why would a primal berserker with no mental stats to speak of, and no magical ability, be able to call up ghosts? Corporeal ghosts, at that.
