D&D 5E (2014) Kickstart Dragon Magazine or any other rpg type magazine?

I subscribe to several dead-tree magazines...

Rodney Thompson Looks Behind The Screen

Good article for new DMs. If you're not a new DM, the article is not for you. Move along. I would have loved articles like this when I was starting out.

D&D 5E (2014) Quintessential Starting Campaign for a group of new, young players.

Keep on the Borderlands was revised for the 5e ("D&D Next") playtest. It was called Caves of Chaos. But, I also recommend Lost Mines of Phandelver.

D&D 5E (2014) Keeping track of monster abilities

Another vote for index cards. A simple 3x5 (or 4x6) card with only the most important info. I like to highlight the really good stuff I might forget (like dispel magic that you mentioned in your example...)

D&D 5E (2014) Options for the best archers

Question about sharpshooter, since I'll be 4th level soon and can choose a feat if I want. I was initially considering sharpshooter, but wonder how useful it is in actual play. How often do you get to take advantage of the extra range? Longbow has such a long standard range, I can't think of...

    D&D 5E (2014) First feat for a 5e Valor Bard

Ok, thanks. I hadn't looked at War Caster, but will check it out.

D&D 5E (2014) Options for the best archers

I have a half-elf archer bard that I like. Started with crossbow but switched to bow at 3rd level when I took the school of valor, which gave me more weapon proficiencies (including longbow), as well as medium armor. At 6th level I'll get an extra attack. At 10th level I can choose a 5th level...

    Exactly my point. ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) Which Urban Setting for D&D 5e?

Combine both. Stick with Neverwinter for the reasons you stated, but borrow some details and plot hooks from Freeport. I borrow stuff all the time from one place to another - really easy to do in cities. Have a favorite tavern from one setting? Use it in whatever setting you're currently playing.

    C&Ds for Online D&D 5E Character Generators

Not only that, but he didn't even have the good sense to *this time* include the required verbiage from the OGL. Not that I think it'd matter - looking at the replaced version, it includes a ton of stuff from both the PHB and the DMG. No way that info would be allowed to stand.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

Not quite what I was saying. Let's try this again. Using your baseball analogy, each class is like a different position. Each has a particular job. Some players can play multiple positions (a utility player), while others are more specialized (a slugger, a closer, etc.) And some are less...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

I wouldn't say any class sucks at any level - but relatively speaking one might be better than another at some given point. Which I think is fine, and some think is not.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

Not sure I see why that's a problem. If every class was relatively equal to every othe class, at each level, then why even have classes? To me, each class has a trade off. Some are better at lower levels, some at higher levels, others more "pretty good" all the way through. Makes for interesting...

    C&Ds for Online D&D 5E Character Generators

Wow, looks like I missed a lot in this thread of late! Amazing how much shorter they get after a well placed addition to the Ignore list.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

Suggestion are good...they're how the game improves. As for "try them and see what happens", isn't that what play testing is?

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

Lol. Yeah, it was a rhetorical question. ;) But seriously - I started playing AD&D (1e) as soon as it was released, moving up from the Basic Set rules. We loved it at the time because it was something new and exciting. We didn't fully understand its flaws and inconsistencies, most likely...

I really don't like the random assortments. Put together some sets (11 sets of 4?) and let us know what we're getting.

    C&Ds for Online D&D 5E Character Generators

Who said I (or others) don't care? (Oh, right...you did. Bad habit, that.) Anyway, you're right - expecting a minimum amount of digital support isn't unreasonable. But, insisting there was no digital support for the previous edition, when clearly there was, IS unreasonable. Ignoring the recent...

    C&Ds for Online D&D 5E Character Generators

Yes, you did: And you could build your characters for 4e in D&DI, even if you want to pretend you couldn't. They also had digital rules compendiums (not the full rules/core books, but a ton of stuff...) and all the other tools I mentioned. They also announced plans to have that, and more, for...
