Keep on the Borderlands was revised for the 5e ("D&D Next") playtest. It was called Caves of Chaos. But, I also recommend Lost Mines of Phandelver.

Another vote for index cards. A simple 3x5 (or 4x6) card with only the most important info. I like to highlight the really good stuff I might forget (like dispel magic that you mentioned in your example...)

Question about sharpshooter, since I'll be 4th level soon and can choose a feat if I want. I was initially considering sharpshooter, but wonder how useful it is in actual play. How often do you get to take advantage of the extra range? Longbow has such a long standard range, I can't think of...

Combine both. Stick with Neverwinter for the reasons you stated, but borrow some details and plot hooks from Freeport. I borrow stuff all the time from one place to another - really easy to do in cities. Have a favorite tavern from one setting? Use it in whatever setting you're currently playing.

Not quite what I was saying. Let's try this again. Using your baseball analogy, each class is like a different position. Each has a particular job. Some players can play multiple positions (a utility player), while others are more specialized (a slugger, a closer, etc.) And some are less...

I wouldn't say any class sucks at any level - but relatively speaking one might be better than another at some given point. Which I think is fine, and some think is not.

Not sure I see why that's a problem. If every class was relatively equal to every othe class, at each level, then why even have classes? To me, each class has a trade off. Some are better at lower levels, some at higher levels, others more "pretty good" all the way through. Makes for interesting...

Suggestion are good...they're how the game improves. As for "try them and see what happens", isn't that what play testing is?
