D&D 5E (2014) Necromancer Games--What do you want us to make next?

Sandbox-type adventures, similar to Lost Mines of Phandelver (design-wise), for varying levels. A good starting adventure, good maps of the area, and plenty of hooks for DMs to create their own followup adventures, plus additional adventures set in the same area down the road. Sort of a more...

    Greg Tito Is UHURA!

You seem to be forgetting the unwritten rule that nothing WotC does is acceptable. * Fired 2 people: DOOMED * Hired 2 people: DOOMED * Released 3 core books that have remained top sellers on Amazon since their release: DOOMED * "Only" released 1 official sandbox adventure, 2 adventure paths...

    D&D 5E (2014) Semi-sandbox product I'd love to see

I second that recommendation. Lots of really good maps. I bought the entire Red Wizards series. Haven't run any of them yet as-is. May some day, but at the very least I have a ton of stuff to mine for other adventures...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about multiclassing Warlock

Thanks for the replies. Now to decide if/when to get a level or two of Warlock. It would be great to be able to have more Healing Word, Dissonant Whispers, and Faerie Fire available after a short rest - would certainly help the party. But the extra attack at 6th level (Valor Bard) is something I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about multiclassing Warlock

Thanks. So, if I'm understanding, a Bard could conceivably cast a Bard spell in a Pact Magic slot and regain it on short rest? Because that would be very cool.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about multiclassing Warlock

If you multiclass a level (or more) of Warlock with another class that has spells, do you regain *all* spell slots after a short rest, or just the Warlock spells? Seems it would be just Warlock, but I know it's going to come up, so want to make sure. We haven't done any multiclassing yet...

    D&D 5E (2014) Semi-sandbox product I'd love to see

I think it's an instant classic. Best Starter/Basic set adventure for sure, but possibly one of the best adventures, period. WotC should make more of those style adventures for varying levels.

    D&D 5E (2014) Semi-sandbox product I'd love to see

I think you just (almost) described Lost Mines of Phandelver. You could use Phandalin as a base city. At the end of LMoP, the PCs can relocate in Phandelver to help rebuild/revitalize it. It already has several NPCs, but you could add more as the town grows/expands. Flesh it out a bit more and...

D&D 5E (2014) Am I the only one that dislikes Adventure Paths?

The funny thing is, many of the old classic modules from 1e were actually adventure paths...just broken into smaller chunks. They were even eventually re-released as bundled APs.

D&D 5E (2014) Warcaster, polearm master and learning to love the optimizing?

I haven't been following this thread, so haven't read all 13+ pages. I did read the OP, and here's how *I* would rule at *my* table (YMMV): * The RAW say (for War Caster) that if a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack, you can use your reaction to cast a spell rather than...

    D&D 5E (2014) Analyzing 5E: Overpowered by design

We're currently 4th level (HotDQ, in which I'm a player), and I've DMed LMoP all the way through, so not sure what you're getting at with "once you and your players had played a bit". We have played a bit, and so far we haven't seen what's being talked about. If players are repeatedly outrunning...

    D&D 5E (2014) Analyzing 5E: Overpowered by design

I guess my two groups (one as a player, one as DM) are doing it wrong if this edition is supposedly so over-powered. The near TPK during the goblin ambush in LMoP was a great introduction to how deadly this edition can be. And our last session in the hatchery (HotDQ) saw 4 of 5 PCs go down at...

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

D&D 5E (2014) Why do we award Encounter XP instead of Adjusted XP?

Y As a DM I would count the experience even if I hand-waived the rest of the encounter. The characters came up with a good strategy that worked, so they get XP (either actual encounter XP, or counting towards a milestone - they successfully thwarted the baddies), but there's no reason to waste...

    D&D 5E (2014) Happy 50th, Forgotten Realms!

Right - which is exactly what I said :) As a literary setting, it pre-dates D&D, but as a campaign setting for D&D, it's between 37 and 40 years old.

    D&D 5E (2014) Happy 50th, Forgotten Realms!

Looks like the first published info about the Realms was 1979 in The Dragon #30. It's unclear when Ed's home version of the campaign started. He "discovered" D&D in '75, but seems like he wasn't serious about it until '78. So, FR as a *campaign setting for D&D* is somewhere between 37-40 years...

    D&D 5E (2014) Happy 50th, Forgotten Realms!

I think the formative ideas can be traced to Gen Con I (1968), when Gary saw a demonstration of a medieval miniatures game "Siege of Bodenberg". This by all accounts interested Gary, and he began thinking about how to improve miniatures rules for 1-on-1 combat, eventually leading to the...

D&D 5E (2014) Why do we award Encounter XP instead of Adjusted XP?

Back to the original question, you did calculate the goblin XP incorrectly, though. Goblins are 50xp each, so the adjusted XP is 500 - a medium difficulty for four 2nd level PCs. The Githyanki is hard difficulty, hence more XP.
