    Babylon 5: Lost Tails

While trying not to get too far into the forums "forbidden zones..".....its interesting to me that JMS, who is supposedly an "athiest" (an often misused word) injects so much, shall we say pro-spiritual content into his work. I think the Minbari belief system is pretty much his own. I liked...

September - What are you Reading?

I decided to re-read the Lord of the Rings start to finish. I've never re read it all the way through, from begining to end. Just in lots of various other ways.

Peter Schaefer's Blog - Racial Traits and Classes

It sounds a lot like now, but moreso, and without the favored class gibberish.

D&D 4E Should hit points continue to be generated randomly in 4e?

I agree entirely, Mister Glowing Hummingbird.

D&D 4E Why Vancian spellcasting is good for the game (and should mostly be in 4e)

Which essentially means that all the "D&D is turning into WoW" and other such naysayers of these changes are getting a bit ahead of themselves. By the same token, the Arcana Evolved magic system still has many of the aspects of the Vancian system, and yet has a feel much more like general...

Things that you would like to see change/go away?

I would like to see armor adding to AC replaced by something akin to the Armor as Damage reduction rules in Unearthed Arcana. Likewise I'd like to see the Class Defense Bonus rules from the same book. I dont really have an issue with damage reduction as it is now, except that DR/magic...

    Scaling the Caster Classes Back

On the other hand though, I feel like Wizards especially at mid levels are missing a few effects they should probably have access too.

    Scaling the Caster Classes Back

I mostly agree. However it does seem to be emerging that there is a small subset of people who consider those things the fun part of playing a wizard. And they think 4e is going to give them the shaft. And it may somewhat but not as much as they think...and, you cant always please everyone..

    Why is it so important?

This is much of what I have been getting at put a bit more precisely.

    Why is it so important?

I don't think we know enough to know that for sure. Its certainly reasonble to think its possible, and it is likely that it won't be as supported, but I dont think it will be totally unsupported. I think strong elements of it will remain. Also, theres an issue of degree and numbers. Resource...

    Why is it so important?

Fighting an enemy that you can kill with a single swordstroke is very easy. Fighting 4 such enemies, is less easy. Fighting 2 enemies that each take at least 3 or 4 attacks to kill is more difficult than either. Then there is fighting a single enemy that is immune to all but your most...

    Will Favored Classes Remain?

I also find favoured class silly. I wouldnt *mind* races getting special perks for "appropriate classes", but really I would rather, and think it may be, that a given race will have certain perks or differences in any class.

    Scaling the Caster Classes Back

In the case of the wizard I'd say its less of a nerfing and more of an evening, but I agree entirely about the Cleric.

    Why is it so important?

But these arent really resources. Not to players and not from a design perspective. The ability to walk isnt a resource. The ability to speak isnt a resource. Not in terms of how people generally think about it. And I think a fighter being able to swing a sword for 1d8 at will and a wizard...

    Swordmage Class

"superior ruleset" is largely a matter of opinion. Most rulesets simply have good points and bad points...and which is which will vary from person to person.

    Scaling the Caster Classes Back

It isnt the only way to do it, although there are not a whole lot. The unfortunate part is it leads to frustration for people who like to play wizards but dont want to have to either spend most of their thought on resource management and/or end up nearly useless in their role while everyone...

    Why is it so important?

Ok, several problems here. First, theres the obvious. Even when your at full resources, OVERCOMING the encounter might be very easy, slight easy, difficult, very difficult, impossible (that is everyone dies, or must retreat to avoid death) and various other degrees of difficulty. next, and...

    Scaling the Caster Classes Back

I agree entirely. However, RPGS are inspired by fiction, and are for many ways of emulating, creating, re-creating etc various works of fiction, or at least the feel of fiction. Both are important, and are not mutually exclusive.

    Why is it so important?

I think a character whose practice of magic consists entirely of the use of magical objects would almost have to be a seperate class. I think there should be more permanent items for spellcasters that dont necessarily cast spells, but that produce unique magical effects or make the...
