HârnMaster 3 pdf available free from CGI!

Yup, I was referring to Eric. No slurring was intended. Just a little goodhearted rivalry. :D Here is my take on this...Columbia Games has intentionally chosen not to take the dispute to the public arena. After a few initial statements, they have been silent. Since public opinion has no...

HârnMaster 3 pdf available free from CGI!

I do not think it is as simple (or "basic") as you are making it. I detect a strong NRC bias in your claim  . I don't want to take sides in their dispute, but there are those who would argue the the fault does not rest simply (or at all for that matter) with CGI. But for the record...

HârnMaster 3 pdf available free from CGI!

Wow, this is a surprising turn of events for CGI. But it is one that makes me happy . I hope this move broadens their fan base. Does anyone know if it helped Ars Magica with their similar move?... Cheers, Mark

    I thought Midnight was great...

Cardinal, can you tell us what is was that got them so juiced? What was it that made it so appealing in comparison to Midnight (and other settings). Cheers, Mark

    Are gamers smarter?

Having just looked at the normative data from the newest IQ test, the WISC-IV, I have to disagree with you on this one. The newer tests show *no* statistical difference between minorities (in this case, African American, Hispanic) and white children. Cheers, Mark

    Are gamers smarter?

Yes, there is an important distinction between the "average" statistically (i.e., mean) and what is labeled as "Average" theoretically (a range) with psychometric tests. I was talking about the latter, but should have been clearer. But as far as the original question goes (which I never...

    Are gamers smarter?

Just for clarity's sake, modern IQ tests do not define Average as +/- 1 SD. It is difined theoretically as 50% of the population (i.e., IQ 90-110; 25th - 75th %ile). That means 25% is above average, and 25% below (not 50% as another poster suggested). Cheers, Mark

Prickly moral situation for a Paladin - did I judge it correctly?

Barsoomcore, I want to play a Paladin in your game :). Thank you for describing the POV that I am too inarticulate to make! Cheers, Mark

Prickly moral situation for a Paladin - did I judge it correctly?

So, how do you really feel about Social Workers Shark? This boils down to the fact that I like a game that does not have absolute and clear good/evil distinctions. You like a more evil vs. good one. More power to you. I just like the ambiguity. It makes me all fuzzy-warm. ;) There are other...

Prickly moral situation for a Paladin - did I judge it correctly?

Well, they weren't that immortal. They were all slain. This party was never actually threatened other than the mental domination (not a small thing I concede). But they could have just as easily subdued them. I vote for this as being the best option (if it were my campaign). I realize that...

Prickly moral situation for a Paladin - did I judge it correctly?

For me the question comes down to the fact of whether the children should be considered irrevocably evil. If so, then the Paladin was justified. But I am not sure if this was the case. The specifics of the pact were not fully known to the PCs IIRC. Could it be revoked? Could the...

An alternate idea for Item Creation Exp cost

This thread (Loosing XP in item making) got me thinking about a recent house rule that I have been planning. I have proposed the following to my group as a House Rule. Since I am not the most mechanically inclinded DM ;), I'd appreciate any feedback, thoughts, or constructive criticism. A...

Northern California Game Day (Any DMs out there?)

Greetings folks! I just called Great Escapes and spoke with Gary Lane about reserving a room. They used to have a bunch of smaller rooms, but remodeled so that they now have only one large room. He said that he would be willing to reserve a section of the room based on the number of people at...

    New Rant Posted

All right, I'll take the bait ;). I think your comment about Harn boards is unfair to our Harniac bretheren. First off, what would you expect? HarnMaster is not a d20 system. One of the premise of your post is based on the recent changes within DnD. Since they are not, I say, they are...

[Heart of Nightfang Spire] Core Teleportation Question

Morning all! My players have once again subverted a perfectly good linear adventure. I love these guys. Truly! As of last session, they have successfully bored through the tower to the metal core. Then they proceeded to use some ingenious magic to remove the 6’’ of iron in front of them...

    "Scalable " Items

Proconsul, I share the same frustration. Have you looked at Swords of our Fathers or Staves of Ascendance from The Game Mechanics? Their weapons are tied to PC and scale with level. Regards, Mark
