    BOEF OGL Violation?

But by adding the parenthetical note that D&D was "the basis of the d20 System", he does seem to be doing more than saying "Requires the use of the Dungeons and Dragons Player's Handbook." (edited for clarity)

    BOEF OGL Violation?

Has Monte Cook ever commented on whether he's gotten permision to mention D&D in his press releases? This quote from the press release for BoHM seems to sidewise imply compatability: "As a senior game designer with Wizards of the Coast, he co-created the new edition of Dungeons & Dragons (the...

What's a fane and what would you do with it if you had one? [humor?]

It's also "n. Scottitsh. an elf, fairy." Which would have made The Demon God's Fane soooo much cooler. [sigh]

    ECLs/Level Adjustments Question

I meant the book itself said it, sorry I wasn't clearer. In the left and right margins of pages 220 and 221 (respectively)it says "The game text presented on pages 220 and 221 is considered Open Game Content." The last paragraph of page 221 says "A scorpionfolk PC's effective character level...

    ECLs/Level Adjustments Question

ECL info was also said to be "considered Open Game Content" in the Scorpionfolk entry in MMII.

    [Dragon] Dragon #307

It's supposed to represent the world as it is at the end of the third novel, and they say they tried their best to avoid spoilers even with that.

    [Dragon] Dragon #307

That is mentioned as one factor, he also refers to it as the "I'll go for a bag of chips " problem. Yes, in a sidebar there's a full statblock, some background RP info, and a little bit of info on the sword. You're a 10th level paladin ("As with all magic and spells presented in this article...

    [Dragon] Dragon #307

Stark says that the spells in the article were "examples of how we addressed problems in a variety of spells and spell-like abilities", and uses the phrase "hold person, hold monster, and other 'on/off' spells". He also says that the problems with hold person "are issues that also carry over to...

    [Dragon] Dragon #307

Harm is the only spell where the full write-up is given. It does 10 points of damage per caster level (to a maximum of 150), reduced to half by a successful Will save, but cannot bring the target's hit points to less than 1. It's not listed as being available to druids. Hold person, etc., now...

    [PR Silverthorne]

Yes, thanks for putting these out. I fully intend to use the second one someday. Really, I've been trying to come up with some thin, strained justification for applying the template in a game ever since you released it last year. It'll come to me, eventually.

    PR 101 Spellbooks Revised

Re: Uploaded Revised Version Have you done this yet? I don't mind if there's been a delay, but since I haven't received one, I'm curious whether the email might have gone astray.

    Archaic Words and Expressions?

You might check to see if your local library has (or can get) The Word Museum or Forgotten English by Jeffrey Kacirk. The former might be better for your purposes, as it has lots of words but short definitions, while the latter has extended looks at a smaller number of words.

    Update SRD - Critters

I have a copy of the story somewhere, I'll try to dig it up and get the relevant passages. Until then, have a look at this cover from a Marvel Comics adaptation from February of 1974. My memory of D&D publishing history is fuzzy, but could displacer beasts have appeared in the game before then...

[Expeditious Retreat Press] Free PDF sample

I like the preview, and I'm looking forward to the book. It will make things a lot easier. By the way, unless you're taking that edgy 3E character look to heart, I think on Table IV.7 the entry for 990-993 should read "Naval".

    What was CAR WARS?

I appreciate the offer, and while it's tempting, my prospects of getting much use out of it aren't high enough for me to put you through the trouble. Thank you for offering, though.

    What was CAR WARS?

Did anyone ever use the optional magic rules they published in the Space Gamer magazine? While I never saw the original article, I have the issue with the spell contest results, and I thought the winning entry was wonderfully elegant and cool. I believe it was called "Tornado," and the effect...

    Rationalizing Savage Species

Would all the minotaur levels have to be taken in a row before advancing in a regular class? If not, then the minotaur could take levels of something else until enough time had passed (if it would in this campaign) for it to go up. Also, looking at the minotaur progression, I think that there's...
