Creatures By Poll - Monster #1!

I can probably come up with a few more, if you think that wouldn't be unfair to others (or the project). We could all probably shotgun a few more concepts if asked. I leave it up to you, Boz. - Devon

    Covering vagabond

Hi, spot, Good synopsis -- some spelling issues, but that is neither here nor there. Just wanted to be clear on the direction you're taking: Mm I right in reading that the vagabond becomes a psion of the level of its host, or does it start out as an ECL 1 creature and gain levels...

Creatures By Poll - Monster #1!

No, I really thought it was a good idea, Krishnath :). In fact, I've already written up the creature, in case it doesn't make it to the finals in this project. But, now that we've completely distracted the focus of this discussion thread (my apologies, Boz)... does anyone else have any ideas...

the Udnots - an original creation by me! :)

Ah, cripes. Sorry. "Hi, I'm an EN-glish major... I studied literature for 9 years and got mostly A's... shouldn't it have FIRE resistance?" Can I multitask? yes Competently? well... - Devon

    D&D 3.x has anyone converted the Atl-Atl into 3e?

Should it make the damage die one better, or give it a better threat range (or both)? - Devon Here's what I have so far: Atl-Atl Exotic Light Ranged Weapon Loading is a move-equivalent action Doubles the range increment on a javelin, spear or half spear, and increases the damage type by one...

the Udnots - an original creation by me! :)

This is a nice, subtle race, ideologically different from the two source races, occupying a lesser-used niche. I like it. If they lair around volcanoes, and strive against firenewts, would some level of flame resistance be appropriate? - Devon P.S. - I just noticed you can rearrange the...

Creatures By Poll - Monster #1!

How about seven legs, seven hit dice, and seven horns above seven eyes? We can get all Qabbalistic on this monster. Have the lower part of the body have two normal legs and one back-facing leg, and the abdomen/thorax can have the other four legs. But that would exceed 40 words. - Devon

    Covering vagabond

I wouldn't imagine that class levels gained while under the power of a vagabond would stay with the host. I would also have to dig through my 2e stuff to get a clearer picture of the vagabond's scope. Although there is no precedent, one could simply tack the psion levels onto the template...

    anyone converted the atl-atl?

Hi, folks, One of my players wanted an atl-atl (the genius primitive device that almost doubles the leverage one can use to throw spears) and I was wondering if anyone has already created a 3e writeup for this device? - Devon

Creatures By Poll - Monster #1!

Sorry, reading comprehension error (and who said those SATs didn't duplicate real life situations). Medium-sized creature: red, leathery, covered in spikes, able to attack from unexpected directions using dimension doors (a la the Boggle) - 7 HD. I'm flexible. - Devon

    gaseous form, ghost touch weapon

Thank you. Now I have to apologize to my players (before they get around to doing the gaseous form+ghost touch weapon tactic)... Which wasn't terribly effective for the bad guy that used it, really, when the whole party had +1 weapons available. :) - Devon

    gaseous form, ghost touch weapon

Is a creature under the effect of the spell gaseous form able to wield a "ghost touch" weapon? Do they count as "incorporeal"? Has this been addressed in an earlier thread? - Devon

    Glumring (please critique, esp. CR)

If I read the writeup correctly, Erica, there IS no save for the Wisdom loss -- only the aftereffects: Perhaps it would be less disastrous if you included Will saves for for half or no Wisdom loss from the breath weapon and claw attacks? - Devon

    Salamanders

Alright, one monster of an audit has been allayed for now. I should never have doubted that which I learned in my tutelage under Erica and Company. :) I should go back in Acrobat and fix that error right now. Thank you very much, - Devon

    Salamanders

Wow, you're right. I was misinformed at the beginning of my creature creation days, but the article does in fact say "extra Hit Dice." Amazing -- I'd just read over it and missed that time and again. This punks up quite a few of my monster's save DCs. Thank you, - Devon

    More vermin! (please help?)

Five feet, eh? Not too dangerous, then. I'd keep the CR at 1 or below -- the ink spray seems no more powerful than a melee touch attack. - Devon

    Salamanders

Just to save you some heartache, saves should be based on half of the total HD, not EHD (which is HD modified by the creature's size). As far as I know, EHD is only used to determine skills and/or feats, and doesn't affect other mechanics based on hit dice. It doesn't even affect how many...

    More vermin! (please help?)

I have trouble with the Cave Fisher's "biological winch" myself (as well as the "air-bladder-plus-biological-winch" setup on the Bonespear of Planescape lore), so I believe that a chemical spray, coupled with the weak save DC, is not too far outside the pale. Also, keep in mind that a Tiny...
