    Challenge to WotC: Initiative

This seems an odd post to me. You say that 3.5 works fine for you and your group, that's fine, and makes sense when you later suggest that you've seen nothing to sell you on 4th (makes sense, then, that if you don't see anything broken from your perspective, you have no need to buy fixes). What...

    Challenge to WotC: Initiative

And, as Cadfan pointed out, to release any information about the initiative presents a de facto standard, or the impression that it is policy, to comply with "challenges" (which look suspiciously like demands). Next thing you know, five boards on the Internet flood with new challenges, and they...

    D&D 4E A humble 4e suggestion

Precisely. Among the first things I thought when it was first pointed out in this thread that swords come with scabbards was of Excalibur. 4e needs magic effects for containers beyond the handful of pre-packaged special containers (bags of holding, Heward's Haversack, Quiver of Ehlonna).

    Too Many Abilities?

Maybe, maybe not. The point is, you think that there will be more rules and abilities to learn the conditions and rules of, since we're adding (maybe) talents to the fray. I think that it's a wash. We're not adding talents, per se -- we're trading in class abilities for them. Sure, we get...

    D&D 5E (2014) "I Have...the Power!" - Your Picks for Next Power Source

Elemental. And then, they can assign each of the classical 4 elements to a role, and we would truly have the Fantastic Four...

    Star Wars Saga

One thing I like about the Serenity RPG's economics is that used ships have higher costs for regular repairs. I'd just steal that shamelessly, and present my players with that fact -- everybody knows that as cars age, they end up having more minor problems more frequently; it's the same with ships.

How does striking an opponent heal your allies?

The fighter just kind of grunts as he sinks his greataxe eight inches into the dragon. The cleric (or, rather, the warlord -- the cleric has a divine source), on the other hand, knows something about *presentation* -- he looses a defiant battlecry as he lands his hit, warning the dragon that...

How does striking an opponent heal your allies?

Who said he was gravely wounded in the first place? He wasn't gravely wounded -- he had painful, superficial wounds and cramps that were dogging his spirits and overwhelming his senses. The inspiration/morale-based surge of adrenaline allowed him to ignore the pain and give him hope to keep...

    Star Wars Saga

After seeing the Serenity RPG (for all its faults) do this successfully, I fully expected any new Star Wars starship stats to be clearly derived from character stat methodologies. And, frankly, I think that it's really helped, especially when you extend that philosophy into some of the maneuvers...

How Much is That Fighter in the Window?

You play strange paladins -- you want your high-level paladins leading thieves guilds? :p

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what a Martial Controller would look like?

Kamikaze Midget, the first thing you and I need to do upon the release of a (swashbuckler-less) 4e, is to collaborate on a martial controller swashbuckler.

    Description of class roles

I think it's fairly apparent that you can make that archer. But the ranger will be better at it, because he's got stuff like skirmish that he looted off the scout's dead corpse. That doesn't preclude you from being a fighter who uses a bow, but it does mean that just because a fighter uses a bow...

    Michele Carter's Big Playtest Post!

Sounds like the Crimelord/Officer talents from Saga. Nice. I really like the confirmation of the "set them up for my group to knock them down" modus operandi for the leader, though -- my last D&D character was a leaderesque rogue-based character, go figure!

Eight is Enough: How Many Classes?

Yeah, I was going along with the school that thinks warlock may well get moved to the striker territory, as I find the redundancy pointless, too. So I was throwing druid in as a controller (since I don't think anybody doubts that druid would make a 12-class cut).

Eight is Enough: How Many Classes?

A martial controller buckles swashes. Thus, you have the Wizard, Druid, and Swashbuckler. The one I have trouble with is the arcane defender. I suppose it could take the form of a buffing class, but bleah. Hrm. Illusionist as arcane defender? Go-go blurred mirror images! Most of the rest are...

    Star Wars Saga

I've been playing in two Saga games in real life, running a PbP elsewhere, and am about to start a second PbP Saga game as a player. I'm loving the system. As for broken things/places with potential for abuse, here are the following things I've observed which would be good places for your GM...

    D&D insider wishlist

I certainly share your hope the DI table is successful enough to warrant porting over to Star Wars, for instance. I'd kill for a poseable, 3-D virtual mini creator for characters, etc., for both my face-to-face games and my play by posts. A persistent table for PbPs would be nice, I'm not sure...

The 4th edition class list so far

Martial controller? This seems like an excellent niche to build a delicious swashbuckler around. Previous swashbucklers and duelists have always seemed to me to be poor strikers or poor defenders, with silly things like intelligence bonus to damage or AC. Yet all the most classic swashbuckling...
