Dragonbane Bestiary Adds Antagonists And Allies To Your Game

Each monster has a table of attacks. The GM rolls a die (often d6) to determine which attack the monster uses. The attacks are "automatical hits", so the GM just applies the effect (which may include saves to avoid damage). Also, monsters have varying numbers of turns, from 1 to 3 per round (I...

    D&D 5E (2024) We’ll be merging the One D&D and D&D forums shortly

If they were looking to replace their books I think they would just replace them with the most current offering. After all, that's what's on the shelves. If they weren't looking to replace their books they won't bother replacing their books.

Yeah but will they be confused? I think it is more likely that they will think "hey, they refreshed the look" rather than "I am so confused." I believe that most of the players aren't as invested in the game as we are, and thus this is not such a big thing for them.

    D&D 5E (2024) We’ll be merging the One D&D and D&D forums shortly

I believe most gamers will not think about the ”edition”-definition. New covers will be the most dramatic change for them.

    One D&D forum disappeared?

Morrus posted about this recently. https://www.enworld.org/threads/we%E2%80%99ll-be-merging-the-one-d-d-and-d-d-forums-shortly.702595/

Recurring silly comment about Apocalypse World and similar RPGs

I readily confess that I find PBtA games difficult to play. I'm so much rooted in the traditional BRP-paradigm that I sort of collide with the PBtA philosophy. So if I wanted to try a game powered by this engine, what is recommended? Monster of the Week? Blades in the Dark? Kult? Preferably...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I think you are extrapolating an awful lot from what I and maybe others have been saying in this thread. For me it comes down to me as a player allowing the GM to set the framework of their game, or in other words set limitations for their game, so that they can run the game to the best of...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I must commend your for trying to weave BG3 into the discussion! :) Unfortunately I haven't played the game so I can't assist. :D

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Not at all. Next week we're playing the last session of our Alien game, and after that we'll sit down with some coffee or tea (for me) and talk about what we want to play next. One GM will get the go-ahead depending on how we feel about the ideas and how much or little GM:ing they've done (I've...

    "Tadpole powers" ... Aaaaaargh! :)

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

A tadpole entering my brain through my eye. It's enough of a horror for me that I stay away from playing BG3. I would probably not play in a tabletop D&D game using that premise. But that's just me, I guess, given the success of BG3.

According to the poll that was created as a result of this discussion 8,1% have no restrictions or limitations, at time of writing. Anything goes. https://www.enworld.org/threads/dm-imposed-restrictions-to-the-game.701956/ Based on this discussion I would have thought it to be more like 75%...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Have I said otherwise? No, I haven't. I have given an example of how I could handle dragonborn in one campaign, and given other examples of how I could handle dragonborn in other campaigns. While I have mentioned verisimilitude (which is very dependent on the group), I have nowhere called on...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

If you play standard D&D which I don’t. And again at its heart this discussion is not about dragonborn. It’s about whether a GM has the right to set the rules of their game and thereby exclude options for players. Dragonborn is the example used. I say a GM has that right.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

So you think that if a unique monster person showed up and people reacted like I described then the same reaction has to be applied to the humans who make up 95 percent of the inhabitants of the known world? I really don’t think it’s a stretch to believe that a talking, walking, never before...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Are you really positing that either a GM has to have everything decided in advance, else the GM must have nothing decided in advance? Seems a bit reductionist to me, but if that’s how you run your games, you go you. I’ll be somewhere in between those two extremes.

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Nope. If I plan adventures myself I pick the ones that fit my idea of the world and the adventure. If I run an adventure I bought I make substitutions as I read through and plan the adventure to fit my idea of the world and adventure. I'm open for most any monsters to exist in my campaign...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I'm beginning to be at a loss when it comes to what position people are taking in this discussion. It seems to me that I'm getting responses saying "well you don't have to have dragonborn be shunned" as if I hadn't already said so myself in several posts, even giving examples from my own games...
