RPG Print News – Arc Dream Publishing, Odd Gob Games, and More

This week is positively surreal with mutant cartoon animal shenanigans in a new RPG and white dice with a white crayon to fill in the numbers and a dice catapult to go with Monty Python's Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme - RPG (Sensible Middle Class Edition). There is also support...

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

Sounds amazing. If you can find 7-9 GMs who also like playing and all of you share similar enough tastes to game for years? You have found the unicorn of gaming! I think the vast majority of groups are a mix of GM(s) and players though. And although some GMs only want to run games many are...

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

That could be an entirely new article. I use servant leadership although there are many others to choose from: transactional, coaching, bureaucratic, democratic, and more. I would avoid autocratic leadership as that leads to horror stories on the internet. In my case, I try to find RPGs that...

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

I disagree and expand on this point in the article. I actually agree with what you're saying. Running games will cover many campaigns over many years. Few GMs run one campaign for years although it does happen. Even then, a long campaign will have many arcs with end points and a new direction.

RPG Print News – Necrotic Gnome, Loke Battle Maps, and More

Dice prices vary wildly and I'm not sure why. I try to vary what I cover here from low priced to more luxury items. This one would be more of a luxury item for those who like such things. You can find healing dice potions at different price points with a quick search.

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

I have heard of that type of campaign play. I've never been part of it myself. I do find it interesting that finding a dedicated DM to run games is seen as a barrier to entry into the RPG hobby. I'd like to see that barrier come down. I'll have to think more about that idea.

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

It isn't so much finding perfection but leading players onwards towards ever more enjoyable adventures, improved game play, and continuing campaign success.

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

Agreed. Showing up is the first requirement though, and some players can't even manage that! Luckily, those players are also easy to weed out unless a regular starts to flake out. Might be a good topic for a future article. My players are great. They are a real pain sometimes, especially that...

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

I understand what you're saying, but in my experience an overwhelming amount of responsibility for having fun falls on the GM. If the players don't show up and play well, then no GM prep helps. But I buy the RPGs, schedule the game, write the adventures, run the game, update the campaign, and...

    Joyful GMing: RPG Success Strategies

Running a table top RPG could be seen as: get and learn a rulebook, find players, make characters, write an adventure, run the adventure, and repeat the last two over and over. The challenge a GM is going to face is that all of those important steps are tactics. Well-executed tactics lead to...

RPG Print News – Necrotic Gnome, Loke Battle Maps, and More

Yes. Loke calls it a 360 degree spine but it is a spiral binding. If you have two battle map books you could connect in the middle outer edges and keep the spirals at opposite edges. Call them hedge rows or weird rocks or something. Maybe a PC can touch one to call on mystical energies and gain...

And it's also on me as the writer. I rarely make typos like this one, and I'll try to continue to keep the count very low going forward.

Shadowdark RPG—The Western Reaches: An Interview with Kelsey Dionne

Just to be clear, because the quote function makes it sound like it came from me, that is Kelsey Dionne quoting directly from her work. I'm sure everyone knew that but clear credit where credit is due! And I agree with @Nightfly, it is good stuff.

RPG Print News – Goodman Games, Metis Creative, and More

Glad to hear it. I've always liked GG adventures. Of course, Goodman Games is not the first RPG company to have editing glitches!

RPG Print News – Goodman Games, Metis Creative, and More

It is good, but as other posters noted buyer beware on some editing challenges. Plenty of third party support as well. I have some 5E Goodman Games stuff but it is about ten years old. Don't have the new stuff.
