Do you use song lyrics as inspiration for adventures?

The theme song of a bokor if ever there was one. Probably one who derives his power from fire and poison.

    Grell...what book is it in?

Grells are badass monsters. Ever since I bought the bendy wire-framed Grell figure back in the day (and then learned true DnD Grells didn't have eyes, but oh well) I've had a fondness for them (and Neo-Otyughs, but that's neither here nor there). I always thought the Grick from the Monster...

    Fantasy Names

I wonder if Lizzie Borden's famous misadventures with a hatchet were due at least in part to the fact that her middle name was Andrew. I thought of one combining some stuff said on here. Since SJ likes the name Ava already, how about Ava Adora, slightly modified from a Smashing Pumpkins album? ;)

    Fantasy Names

There's also Elayne (I like that - it's a fairly common name, but not spelled the same) and Vivienne or whichever name the Lady of the Lake goes by. And Nimue, the sorceress who imprisoned Merlin. And Enid, which is a good old English name, but kinda...old-fashioned. Well, technically, there...

    Fantasy Names

I've always been partial to the name Moiraine (Wheel of Time). As well as Arya (Song of Ice and Fire).

What are you reading? (April 2005)

I'm reading Gardens of the Moon. It was slow starting, but it's starting to pick up now (I'm at the beginning of the Darujhistan section).

    World of Warcraft rants

My sole rant concerns some fine folks I grouped with on the Shadow Council server. I did the Deadmines quests (knocked both the Gnomish Sprocket and Van Cleef out on one go). At the very bottom of the dungeon, after killing Van Cleef, we were making our way to what I assume was the exit. We...

    The Classic Movie Monster Project

Point taken. And yes, that would be what she was based on (with some changes, of course). She's been edited to reflect your point.

    Character names from popular music

But Kyuss was a necromancer in Greyhawk. So thats kinda cheating. As for me, I had an NPC assassin named Cortez, which nobody got (Cortez The Killer by Neil Young). I also once featured two daughters of house Amoc who were uber-energons and embodied Positive and Negative. Amoc = inverse of...

castles and crusades race and class

Also, each race (or at least some) have additional racial bonuses to certain class abilities and such, thus giving you classes it might be advantageous to have your character belong to. But as others said, not ruling out other classes though.

Masks of Nyarlathotep: Chapter 2 (London)

"And last time I was at war, I got sick and had to go home. So what's that say?" William grins. "In any case, if something...untoward is going to happen, there's nothing we can do to prevent it. Just deal with it when it gets here. On the other hand...you're quite right, Miriam, this is an...

C&C: A Lion in the Ropes

"I agree, also," says Colm, kneeling to clean his morningstar on the grass before returning it to his belt. "If we were attacked by goblins and worgs in the daylight, one can only imagine what may stand in our way after nightfall. Yes, let's go."

Lone Wolf II: The Lakuri Gambit (MS 5022)

As you come up on the top deck, the Kai stops short as a black-fletched iron arrow thumps into the mast. Soon, a storm of similar arrows rains from the sky. The companions look in the direction of the arrow flights and sees an ominous black-sailed ship, flying a sickly green flag emblazoned...

I don't know whether to cry like a baby or jump for joy!

I could be mistaken, but the story of Aladdin is actually Chinese, I think... and Aladdin himself was supposed to be. As I hear it. So...hey.
