    D&D General D5e HP - divide by 5?

The fun thing about sharing gaming ideas is that - if you are lucky a bit - while the general reaction is not always enthusiastic, there is is (if you are lucky) a person or two for whom the idea is just right. Glad I could help you out :)

    D&D General D5e HP - divide by 5?

The thrill could be in the attack roll... but if you really want to roll damage too, you could simplify the game, and then replace "pips" with D6. Not as simplified, but still simpler than today.

    D&D General D5e HP - divide by 5?

As @ezo mentioned above, the simple math of D&D are, for some people, not simple at all. I know people for whom 5+3 is a challenge.

D&D General What are the minimum standards for a published adventure campaign?

A adventure I've been very impressed with is Dungeons of Drakkenheim. It has a number of adventuring locales - the dungeons of drakkenheim It has a ruined city with strange conditions that greatly influences pacing and make it interesting There is a lot of details/hooks on getting the PCs to a...

    D&D General D5e HP - divide by 5?

I've noticed something... the "base" amount of damage/healing in D&D is 5. Cantrip is usually a d8, d10 damage - about five. A regular attack is about double that - the stat bonus is usually about +4, +5, the weapon dice is usually about a d8, d10. Aid: 5 Cure wounds: about double that...

D&D General D&D as a Game- On the Origin of Hit Points and Start of the Meat Debate

Very true. But this is often due to just random luck. Any mid level PC with a reasonable con score can fall 50 feet once per day and be totally fine. There may be one or two people on earth who can do this, if at all, without trickery/artifice. If the game had a mechanism where each fall...

D&D General D&D as a Game- On the Origin of Hit Points and Start of the Meat Debate

Warhammer had sort of a hybrid approach to the gygax/arnesson divide. In 2nd ed, a starting character would have about 8-10 wounds (roughly the equivalent of HP). And a high level fighter-type might have... 6, 8 more wounds than a starting character? But said high level warrior was also...

D&D General D&D as a Game- On the Origin of Hit Points and Start of the Meat Debate

agreed - a 5th level character can jump off a 5th story budling and be 100% fine the following morning... and they can do this every day. Temp HP also muddles the issue....

D&D 5E (2014) Rune Knight Is The Best Fighter Overall IMHO.

Yup. I played a shield and board one, so I ended up taking things like lucky, ritual caster and chef...

D&D General Gaming From Above vs Gaming From Below

I think the system has a big impact on this. The more powerful PCs are/can be, the more independent they can be of social norms and power. You see this a lot in high level D&D games. Warhammer 2nd ed frpg is *really * good at showcasing the "from below" aspect, it's baked into the system...

D&D 5E (2014) Rune Knight Is The Best Fighter Overall IMHO.

I think the "bonus action traffic jam" is what keeps them from being OP, personally. I do agree with you that most of the runes are quite good - only frost is clearly a "don't bother" with. I also agree that cloud rune doesn't come up as often as I expected.

    D&D General Bedlamite

So, the town is name Bedlam, because bedlam means a commotion, a big mess, an uproar. The reason why that word means that, the origin of that word, is because Bedlam used to be the nickname of the Bethlem Royal Hospital, which back in the day was an asylum for the insane (to use the terms used...

    D&D General Bedlamite

So this is a 5e invention? Yikes. Rather ableist isn't it?

    D&D General Bedlamite

Considering the association of bedlamite with archaic mental institutions and views on mental illness... perhaps change the term? I have no information on the topic, sorry :(

    D&D 5E (2014) All Spells *At Will*??? (+)

I think that these discussions should consider what other systems do re "magic at will" Notably, warhammer has a "magic at will" system. How do they balance it? 1: magic is unreliable. a spell may fail 2: magic is dangerous: a spell can backfire 3: magic users are specialized. No "swiss...

D&D 5E (2014) Players Only: How Often Should Your Character Be Able to "Go Nova"?

I think it depends on the "strength" of the nova. For a fighter, going nova is action surge. For a paladin it's smite. At higher level, the paladin can have a much bigger nova than a fighter, buuuut not as often. So that balances out.

D&D General Dungeons of Drakkenheim & Lairs of Etharis: WotC Adds Third Party Products To D&D Beyond

I came here to post this. Dungeons of Drakkenheim is an excellent adventure, both "content wise" but also how well thought out it is from an organization/ease of use perspective. I'm currently running it with my players at home :)
