    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

And now we are much more in agreement :) I actually did crunch the numbers, and over time the amount of continual lights would become quite high: Continual light/flame - how common are they? We are again in agreement. Perhaps it is time I write a post crunching some numbers? But very...

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

NO. We don't need to do that. The "expense per day" gives us a preeety dang good idea of the value of a gold piece in a generic D&D world. At the risk of sounding like a broken record: D&D is not an economic stimulator. The price list doesn't really withstand close scrutiny. BUT...

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

It is very common for adventurers to have uncommon items. I can't recall a campaign where there weren't at least a few items of the sort. My observation is that it seems the rarity is not rated to adventurers.

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

If my job is to make the world make sense (as a GM), I do that, in part by building a world that reflects the rules. It makes no sense that a +1 shield and a "shield of casting the shield spell" are worth the same

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

The more I think about it, the more I think the problem is linking rarity and power. Take the humble bag of holding. Can I imagine a world where they are "uncommon"? Of course! What I have a hard time imagining is that it's worth 400 gp when it's trivial to demonstrate that a merchant...

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

This is an off-shoot of the "bespoke items" thread. I've been thinking a lot about the "meaning" of uncommon. The crafting rules in 5.5 are pretty generous, and uncommon items are pretty accessible. Given the very high utility of some of these items, it seems to me that they would be...

D&D 5E (2024) Tier List. Barbarian Review and Ratings.

I do agree with you that the temp hp feature is not amazing, in part because well, there are a lot of temp hp source, and a world tree barbarian won't contribute as much in a party with a better temp hp giver. That being said, temp hp ARE given on the first turn - given to the barbarian...

D&D 5E (2024) Tier List. Barbarian Review and Ratings.

I think that's a good take on it. And if the wild heart has a bit of an idea "what's coming" and selects the good options for that day, they can be quite effective in combat - advantage to allies, flight etc, it's all good.

D&D 5E (2024) Tier List. Barbarian Review and Ratings.

I agree it's a good one but... when it happens, ok, fantastic. But often is that going to be? Maybe 1/3 battles? And the barbarian won't be targeted/fail their save in every battle, so it's going to be relevant in say, 1/4 battles... The World Tree ability is relevant every fight - I...

    D&D 5E (2024) Homebrew Backgrounds

What a coincidence. This background was done because I'm about to start a Yoon Suin campaign. The geography of the place is almost dominated by the God River. Its waters are navigated by the Lamarakhi - the "real" title should be Lamarakhi boatperson, but I wanted something a bit more...

D&D General Dnd Artificer Gunslinger multiclass

So I had an idea for a "magical gun slinger". First, take artillerist, for the eldritch cannon. It can be tiny, and "Tiny one can be held in one hand.". Now you could continue with artillerist and use "arcane firearm" as your other "magic gun" and have fun with that. It's a valid charac ter...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

In my 35 years of experience, in at least 90% of campaigns a wizard PC would be delighted to craft a shield of shield for the party tanks. (in a few campaigns the castes are jerks. This is not the norm) A subsection of martials would also be able to do this with ease - various gishes, even my...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

Of course the DM always has final say. But a system that allows people to do things but oh no not that one is... very frustrating for players.

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

If we are going to quote TreantMonk, then I think it would be helpful to quote more from him. He later said that shield is now "less good" because there are more reaction defensive options. A monk can react parry and reduce damage. There are a number of ways to impose disadvantage on an...

I mean, you could cast hold person on a foe and achieve the same ... but that's me being pedantic. It really is a very, very good ability, even without the mistaken idea of flinging people into the air.

That's the source of my error. Someone mentioned this somewhere, I thought "wow cool" and then forgot the Aarakocra bit

I think overall though, we're in a good situation for the barbarian. They are more useful out of combat than before (although they remain a combat-focused class), and all the subclasses are at least decent. Well done WotC Oh, and the battlerager ... you can merge it with the bezerker and I...
