    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

You're either trying to be funny or you truly don't understand that ad hominems are the plural of ad hominem using standard English. Tell me you know the difference between similar and plural... Or would you prefer for me to have used "argumenta ad hominem" instead of standard English...

More ad hominems instead of rational responses.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

What makes you say that. We know that Mearls has talked about Greyhawk and "gets it". We know he has an expert knowledge of 5e design principles. WotC obviously has no heartburn about going to outside talent for additional content or canon adjudication - so sources like grodog could be enlisted.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

Who says you can't do it across history? Reboot to the beginning, include a chapter on the GH Wars/FTA/LGG eras as an addendum, and adjudicate discrepancies amongst the various prior publications. Call it done.

Which is why a proper cleanup would be most welcome.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

If Mercer didn't exist, I think Mearls would have worked on a 5e Greyhawk.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

This, and the expected whining and complaining from players when the DM converts stuff while waiting for an official conversion to the current edition doesn't match the official conversion.

D&D General On gatekeeping and the 'live-streaming edition wars'

Not exactly true. 3e overextended itself. 4e's essentials was an overextension (although badly needed from an errata standpoint).

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

I completely understand his viewpoint. Adventure modules with some flavor of older settings feels like a tease - it doesn't feel like WotC taking seriously requests for 5e treatments of older campaign settings. When I question why Wildemount instead of an update of GH or DS or FR, I get...

D&D General On gatekeeping and the 'live-streaming edition wars'

Maybe. I'd argue that WotC's own website's tagline for Wildemount is "Create your own Critical Role campaigns with this sourcebook..." What happens when DMs and players (especially any who've been waiting for this to actually begin playing D&D vs watching a webstream of other people playing...

D&D General On gatekeeping and the 'live-streaming edition wars'

Perhaps, but one need only look at the drop-off rate to determine that. We already know that Wildemount had a momentary spike at #1 of all books on Amazon (it's currently listed at 27 in overall best sellers). While it is impossible to exactly know what the sales numbers are and being ranked...

D&D General On gatekeeping and the 'live-streaming edition wars'

What I'm saying is that if you asked x number of people if they were interested in something and then ask them if they were going to buy that something and then actually see if they did buy that something, the numbers of positive responses will be less in each instance. Interested > will buy >...

D&D General On gatekeeping and the 'live-streaming edition wars'

Again, I'd argue the statistical data is only as good as the honesty of the survey responses where people may say one thing but end up actually doing another.

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

It's the "DM is free to override" that drives campaign setting specifics, regardless of if it is homebrew or published. Which gods are PCs free to worship? If that paradigm was intended to be hard and fast, those gods would be forced to be the same regardless of campaign setting. Likewise...

D&D General On gatekeeping and the 'live-streaming edition wars'

You are presuming that I think mine is worth more than others. My argument is that it shouldn't be worth less. Mercer's statements reassuring people hold less weight than if WotC were to be the one making the statement - he isn't the one controlling WotC's schedule - WotC is. If WotC wants to...

Critical Role The New D&D Book Is 'The Explorer's Guide to [Critical Role's] Wildemount!' By Matt Mercer

And why is this a problem? Clerics can't use wizard spells and vice versa - so you're not using all the core rules if you don't have one PC of each class. Running adventurers in a forest with no underwater stuff isn't using all the core rules. The campaign setting should inform the rules, not...
