Unearthed Arcana New Psion update, Dungeons and Dragons Unearthed Arcana

I really don't know how you get that that interpretation. My question is, what is needed for a psion class? Is having the bulk of their powers be the same spells as other casters ok?

Unearthed Arcana New Psion update, Dungeons and Dragons Unearthed Arcana

OK, so my first psionicist was, of course, 2e's, which was very different from any other class. And not just mechanically--the powers were very different as well. Many of them were kinda dumb, but they were different. This version has cool and unique class/archetype abilities; the fact that it...

Unearthed Arcana New Psion update, Dungeons and Dragons Unearthed Arcana

While I'm not poo-poohing the idea of the psion here, all you really need is a rule for that. "These classes/archetypes cause defiling which does X, Y, Z. Those classes/archetypes don't cause defiling." I mean, I know the psionics class in 2e was important, but there were really far fewer...

Unearthed Arcana New Psion update, Dungeons and Dragons Unearthed Arcana

Sadly, there are very few psionic abilities left that haven't been turned into a spell. Or that weren't a spell originally but they decided to make a psionic version of it. There were probably more back in 2e, but a lot of those powers were... weirdly limited. Like determining a target's level...

Unearthed Arcana New Psion update, Dungeons and Dragons Unearthed Arcana

OK, so people are saying that psionics isn't different enough, or shouldn't be different, and so on. But my question is, what should psionics actually be, in terms of flavor and utility? What makes it different from regular magic? From wizard magic, bard magic, sorcerer magic, cleric magic, and...

    Fabula Ultima general thread [+]

I've done cutscenes in my Monster of the Week game and they rarely take more than 2-3 minutes. So if it's a one-person show, it's really short. But mine are more like extended flavor text than anything else.

Star Wars WEG D6 - The Force Point - "Is it a good thing?"

I remember Dark Side points, although I don't recall if the GM got to use them as well, or just PCs to do naughty things.

Unfortunately, then they'd have to do a lot more about damaging objects, which would be nice but I doubt they'd do.

Level Up (A5E) A Leveled-Up Bestiary: Volume Two

That's true. Dragons are hard. I'm currently doing prep for a game that I'll run... eventually. When I'm further along, I'll take a look at LU monsters again.

Level Up (A5E) A Leveled-Up Bestiary: Volume Two

I honestly don't know. I'm finding myself preferring lighter systems, and worrying that Level Up is quickly becoming bloated (in terms of 3pp material, not official). I know that most people aren't putting out monsters. I'll think about it. There are more to do; I just need to find the energy...

D&D General Eberron - why don't you run it? [-]

I don't think you're using the term noir correctly. What Eberron has is film noir--it's set in the equivalent of the 30s, after all. No other setting actually does that.

...but Eberron already has tech is magic. It's full of tech is magic. I mean, it has trains powered by elementals, for goodness' sake.

D&D General Eberron - why don't you run it? [-]

I think that if I were to do a 6e, I'd bring that back. I'd really try to figure out what each tier of play was supposed to be for and try to bake that into character progression. Heck, now that I think about it, I could see having an option for the game to "stop" at that level while still...

D&D General Eberron - why don't you run it? [-]

At least with the Realms, there's an apocalypse every new edition few decades or centuries which can be extrapolated as setting technology back a bit.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

There could easily be a house rule where the GM can compel the PC by letting them use their experience for free. I'm not sure that Never Back Down is something that would need to be compelled, though, or challenged in chargen. In the D&D game I'm in, my swashbuckler character has the Flaw of...

D&D 5E (2024) ADHD Medication Design Challenge: Let's skin this cat.

Is this for that 6e project you were on, for D&D, or for Level Up? (Good luck with the meds!)

D&D General Eberron - why don't you run it? [-]

What do you consider the "Eberron approach" to be? For myself: the setting is OK but not really my jam. I prefer (my own interpretation of) Ravenloft.

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

Depending on how this is worked out, this could be very helpful in the monster department. I'm looking at monsters from 3x and there's a lot of that "monster's favored class is rogue" type of thing. Only back then, you'd have to spend a bunch of time statting up a monster with rogue levels and...

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

Well (in case I wasn't as clear as I thought), I meant like "animal person" with traits done like those of a shifter, rather than an actual shifter, so you pick "Vicious Predator: Get claws and fangs as natural weapons that inflict 1d6 piercing (bite) or slashing (claw) damage" and then decide...

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

Here you could simply do a generic animal folk. Take a look at how Ebberon's Shifters are done. Instead of doing each individual type of animal as a different type of Shifter (wolf-shifter, deer-shifter), they're divided up into rough types (beasthide, wildhunt) and the player choses one. It's...
