    D&D 5E (2024) Variant True Strike

Hi everybody! We all celebrated when True Strike was changed. Now, after playing with it in a game (as a bard) and also playing with it in BG3 (arcane trickster, eldritch knight, sorcerer, and warlock), I find myself running into a conundrum: I like the new True Strike as it's own spell, but it...

    D&D 5E (2014) HOUSE-RULE: Options for Two-Weapon Fighting

Thanks! It's been working real well for me. Generally, high Str has Two-Handed weapons for damage, high Dex has Two-Weapon Fighting.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

Epic books could really be made into little sets for the different classic roles (warrior, mage, expert, priest), with the mixed classes getting access to both. Then it's not just "which one will I pick?" but "I can't wait to get another".

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

Personally, I think there are 2 core issues: 1) Theme and Support: there have been more books and adventures to fill out the local and regional play styles than the world and multiplanar play styles of high level play. 2) Progression: People like numbers going up and getting new abilities...

    D&D 5E (2014) HOUSE-RULE: Options for Two-Weapon Fighting

correct; every twfer uses Vex if they can (and I've seen monk builds dip rogue or fighter for Vex to get another attack), so might as well bake it in and nix the problems. Oh, I forgot to mention, off-hand attacks don't benefit from mastery properties. OH! Maybe that can be the other bonus for...

D&D 5E (2024) Magic Missile is saved! Hooray!

I never thought of Magic Missile being the "He's down: Finish Him Off!" spell. I kind of like it being an anti concentration spell, as that makes it a good anti-mage spell and gives it a particular niche; it's just a bunch of DC10 checks, though, so it loses its utility at higher levels.

    D&D 5E (2014) HOUSE-RULE: Options for Two-Weapon Fighting

Here's what I have done for years, and rogues getting access to Vex proved it was balanced to me (updated for 2024): Basic fighting with two weapons: when you make an attack with a light weapon in your main hand, you may make a second attack with a different light weapon with your off-hand. The...

D&D General Active Defenses: Increasing Player Engagement

That was part of it. But I'd want to tweak the success and failures so they feel like meaningful choices.

D&D General Active Defenses: Increasing Player Engagement

I actually did my last 5E campaign from 3rd to 12th levels with generally 3 deadly fights per adventuring day, so less but more impactful fights is up my alley.

D&D General Active Defenses: Increasing Player Engagement

I've been wondering if every class could be adjusted to have a basic bonus action. Fighting Styles could all use them, monks have martial arts, rogues have cunning action, and so on.

D&D General Active Defenses: Increasing Player Engagement

Hi everyone! I've been thinking about how to make an Active Defense system. The big change to the system would be that AC and Save DCs would be rolled, but the main element would be that an aware defender gets to choose how they react to an attack. For instance, if an enemy attacks with a melee...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

You know, I actually love the idea of moving some humanoids to other creature types. It makes it clear who is a "person" and who is a fantastic creature. Why kobolds are dragons but dragonborn aren't is something that doesn't make sense at first glance. Also elves being fey touched while...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragons as Player Characters

Thianhaa been an issue with GMBinder for a while. I'll triple check that it displays correctly when I put the updates together.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragons as Player Characters

Looks like a typo on the Natural Armor scaling. Was supposed to go 15, 16, 17, similar to rogue in studded leather scaling, or medium armor 13, 14, 15 with +2 dex scaling, 1 below heavy armor scaling.

D&D General Redesigning DnD 5e with no Bonus Actions

I think a solution where EVERY class has a bonus action at-will ability would be best. Then there isn't that struggle of "what will I do?", the player can just default to their class BA if they don't have other options. Fighting Styles could have all been a bonus action, for instance. Now that...

    D&D 5E (2024) 3 Months in - Weapon Mastery

I'm enjoying weapon mastery, but I don't like how Nick is implemented. Luckily, because of Nick, I have been convinced that my TWFing house rules are just fine. Because of them, my Nick is getting replaced for an ability that lets the 1d4 weapons be paired with nonlight weapons for TWFing, so...

D&D 5E (2014) The 2024 Ranger is Actually Pretty Good (with numbers)

You have to hit with divine favor around 4 times before it matches the damage output of one Divine Smite. The only thing OP I'm seeing about divine favor is that the damage is per attack, and thus it gets more powerful with level without upcasting. Easy fix, make it hit once per round and then...

D&D 5E (2014) The 2024 Ranger is Actually Pretty Good (with numbers)

I fundamentally disagree, or at least that Hunter's Mark has to be OP in the hands of any class with concentration buffs. Divine Favor is almost exactly the same as Hunter's Mark, it just deals 1d4s instead of 1d6s, but it targets yourself, not enemies. Divine Favor can be stacked with...

D&D 5E (2014) The 2024 Ranger is Actually Pretty Good (with numbers)

The ranger's damage isn't an issue. The issue with the 2024 Ranger is it feels like their concentration is constantly locked up in Hunter's Mark. If that was changed somehow (such as making Hunter's Mark not concentration, make it's damage once per round, have damage and duration scale with...
