    D&D 4E Rob Heinsoo on 4E PHB

One very significant detail is that he confirms that at each level you gain a new power from a list of "four or five or six powers."

And the trap slams shut! Well played, Gene.

Help me Scott Rouse, you're my only hope...

Sorry. I forgot that the encrusted layers of nonsense and meta-nonsense around here make it difficult to distinguish sarcastic jocularity from actual bitter nerd rage. I'll try to use sarcasm tags in the future.

Cons are so videogamey! The developers are just bots that sit around and tell the same "secrets" to anyone who walks by.

Saving throws are a coin toss?

One of the WotC folks said that they were skeptical of the mechanic but were won over after seeing it in use. I echo this sentiment. I was concerned by the same questions mentioned in this thread. Having seen a variety of continuing effects in play now, I've learned to stop worrying and love...

Are monsters of equal level a challenge?

The ganking part doesn't really work out either though. At least from the encounters I've been involved with thus far. So long as you stick to the 4/pc, making it a 'balanced' encounter, I expect them to be ineffective. Too little damage, too much dying.

Are monsters of equal level a challenge?

Having run one 4e game and played in another 4 minions per pc is definitely speedbump territory. Doubly so if they have a wizard. The party can definitely handle a batch of foes each being a level or two higher than the party.

    Paladin. Disappointing

Forgive me for disagreeing with your POINT. Playing fair boils down to the paladin doing the absolute minimum necessary to satisfy your conditions, all the while the player finds ways to contravene its intent. In any case, it doesn't seem likely that we're going to find any resolution here...

    Paladin. Disappointing

You mean like deciding that you suddenly dislike Bob, the fighter, and slapping him with a wet paper napkin, all the while both of you run away from the encounter with a brief pause to close and bolt the door? Your solution leaks like a sieve. It's not designed with munchkin rulesmastery in...

    Paladin. Disappointing

Paladins are supposed to defend the squishies. Rogues are supposed to strike with surprise. Welcome to the arms race. The wizard has a light cantrip. If hiding works in a fashion similar to 3.x, then he can often counter that tactic. If it proves to be a recurring problem, then maybe the...

    Kobolds made nice

It's a vanilla mark like the fighter marks. I believe the -2 penalty on attacks vs other targets is built into the mark ability itself and not contingent on other features.

    Paladin. Disappointing

For the same reason that the paladin would be running away in the first place.

    Paladin. Disappointing

Your solution multiplies absurdities. "Let me at 'im! Just let go and I'll take his head off!" So the paladin advances one square on the foe and a party member slides or pushes him back. Problem persists.

    Paladin. Disappointing

I wish they'd simply say that the paladin needs to be able to see his foe or the mark winks out. Yes, it means that the bad guy can go invisible or hide to get rid of it. It takes a minor action to switch it to someone else. Big deal. If the bad guys can't strike the paladin because they...

D&D 4E Kill 200 Kobolds! (Or running 4E with just DDXP info)

A buddy of mine was musing that you roll a single die for all ability recharges. They may have written in each number simply for convenience. If you roll a 4, you can scan your page looking for all the 4s listed. Trivial for a player, but when a DM is running multiple monsters with various...

D&D 4E Kill 200 Kobolds! (Or running 4E with just DDXP info)

I think you roll a d6 each round. When your recharge numbers come up, the feature is then ready for use.
