WotC: Souldn't Magic Items Be Classified By Function?

I suspect form will determine function. If they determine invisibility is provided by cloaks, I doubt a ring of invisibility will exist. People are judging the 4E article through 3E glasses. I suspect that article is just the tip of the iceberg and we haven't seen the deeper changes yet.

    Sigil is in the DMG!

While I am not excited to hear about Sigil appearing in 4E (it seems very not-PoL to me) what I really dislike is how it got there: The editor forced it in... and said as much. This tells me that James Wyatt (whom I have tremendous respect for as the story guy) did not see a place or need for...

New article Design and Development Article on Magic Item Slots

Various thoughts: Irda Ranger: nice post #102! Rings and level requirements: rings will be more powerful now. It's not that you have to be 11th level to use a ring of protection +1, it more that the Ring of Awesome doesn't even respond to someone who is not already on the road to awesome...

Metagame role of PoL compared to alignment

Not the case anymore. W&M states that their are 'no forced race relations' and 'no inherent racial emnity between PC races' (p.14).

    Damage types from DDM

I think 4E D&D poison is represented by other mechanics in DDM 2.0. Exhibit A: The Spined Devil Preview. The 4E stats has Spine Rain doing 1d6+2+2d6 fire AND Poisoned 5, slowed while poisoned. The same attack in DDM 2.0 stats does 15 damage AND Slowed (Speed 2). I suspect that DDM rules will...

    Green Dragon

Yep... no prob. My thoughts on the 4E Green dragon: The art used for the 4E Character Sheets: awesome, except for the nose horn The DDM cover art: looking weirder, where did those cheek horns come from? They're worse than the nose horn. The mini: love the body and wings. (Wait a minute... the...

Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

No prob... I think it's a great book. (I think I prefer it over R&C because I am realizing how the D&D story--or lack thereof--was just as responsible for my growing dissatisfaction as the rules. I love where they are taking the rules, but I never dreamed they would put the same effort into the...

I found one line for ya: "Formorians command the fealty of redcaps, dark ones, quicklings, and other evil fey..."

Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

As much as I love Devils (in the game, as opponents) I haven't read much of that part yet. Probably because a couple of the preview articles gave me enough of a taste (and I like!) I'll let you know if I scare anything up. Elemental Chaos... ranges from chunks to much larger. No discussion of...

Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

Haven't seen anything yet. The quicklings probably ate them. I'm serious... the quicklings look nasty!

Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

    1) Nothing directly. A little on good-unaligned-evil. Most people are unaligned. To be good means to champion right, evil is more than 'bad thoughts.' 2) Doesn't say. It mentions how the 3E MM give 12 ages of 10 dragons for 120 possibilities. It does mention they worked hard to differentiate the...

Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

No one knows it. There's some fluff about how Orcus thinks if he can learn her name, he can have power over her (since they both vie for the undead.)

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

I remember reading (but will never find the source) that a WotC type stated that it was a 'typo.' (Somebody pasted the wrong art into the layout.)

Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

Funny... in the thread about the Year of the Ageless One, I offered that connection as well. At first I thought it was a sure thing, but after a little discussion, I'm not so sure. But that's because I don't know enough about the shades. Definitely very similar... similar enough that they could...

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

OK, I didn't realize all that was already part of the backstory. I recognized the name Netheril, but I thought the rest was newly crafted in the 4E article. Guess that's not the case. So, where does that leave my last few posts? Well, it looks like the Shades have some close similarities to the...

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

I've been out of FR for a while... are Shades something already FR-specific? (versus just a generic undead?)

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

After reading World and Monsters, I'm inclined to think that the Shades of Netheril are actually Shadar-Kai. The fluff in the FR article about the shades, shadow-transformed, humans from a city that went to the Plane of Shadow, etc. is all very close to the new fluff for Shadar-Kai presented...
