D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Why pick nits? Wheel of Time is a beloved and important fantasy franchise. Is it bigger than Narnia, Harry Potter, or other series? Who cares about the ranking?

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I don't think that's what @Reynard meant. Yes, the books are still enjoyable! Otherwise, why adapt them? The books have problematic elements that don't hold up decades later, as does much of the fantasy written in the 80s and the D&D game itself. Mostly how the story deals with the various...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Eh . . . I mean, certainly, some fans were upset with the changes made to the story. And that's fair. But a majority of fans? There aren't numbers on that sort of thing, but . . . I'm a fan of the books, and I loved the TV series, changes and all. Some of the changes I noticed, I didn't care...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Did it though? Or did Wheel of Time alienate a LOUD portion of the fan base? The show certainly didn't perform well enough for Amazon to continue with it, sadly IMO. I was really enjoying it! I am hoping that this "news" means a live-action television adaptation of Chronicles, but . . . there...

D&D General How Much D&D Stuff Is There Anyway? Part 4: Novels

Okay. Don't know what to tell you, but that's what I remember. Could have been the hardcover Monstrous Compendium or one of the appendices, but there were a couple of DragonDice entries, not many. If memory serves, it was just the lava and coral elves.

D&D General How Much D&D Stuff Is There Anyway? Part 4: Novels

Well, actually . . . The setting for DragonDice was very D&D friendly, if not specifically called out as an official D&D setting. But . . . monster stat blocks for the various races/species were included in one of the Monstrous Compendium appendices, not sure which one . . .

AD&D 2E Can anyone give me a rundown on Red Steel and other obscure D&D settings not mentioned in this video?

No problems! WEG Star Wars is an important and influential RPG . . . from decades ago. Us old timers might raise an eyebrow at your use of "obscure", but for not-old RPG fans, yeah, sure, it's obscure.

D&D General Where to start with Mystara?

Actually, that is Bargle's first name, Bargle is his last name. The dark wizard Argle Bargle.

D&D General Where to start with Mystara?

When your parents name you Bargle, you are probably going to grow up to be a villain.

AD&D 2E Can anyone give me a rundown on Red Steel and other obscure D&D settings not mentioned in this video?

Council of Wyrms was originally released as a boxed set, then later re-released as a hardcover book. I'm fairly certain the content was mostly the same in both versions. The setting is a archipelago of islands populated by dragons and their servant peoples, including realms ruled by all the...

AD&D 2E Can anyone give me a rundown on Red Steel and other obscure D&D settings not mentioned in this video?

Jakandor was three books; Jakandor Island of War, Jakandor Isle of Destiny, and Jakandor Land of Legend. Jakandor is a large island with two warring cultures, a culture of barbarian warriors and a culture of necromancers. The necromancers are interesting, because they aren't your garden-variety...

AD&D 2E Can anyone give me a rundown on Red Steel and other obscure D&D settings not mentioned in this video?

Red Steel's "Savage Coast", like the "Known World" of the main Mystara setting, has a hodge-podge of nations loosely based on real-world cultures. That's either going to bug you or excite you . . . IMO, they are awkwardly placed next to each other without rhyme or reason, but some of the...

AD&D 2E Can anyone give me a rundown on Red Steel and other obscure D&D settings not mentioned in this video?

Red Steel is a coastal setting, but didn't really involve ocean-going adventures . . . you could certainly do that, but it wasn't a focus of the setting. Jakandor and Council of Wyrms are island settings, but as with Red Steel, didn't have a focus on ocean-going adventure.

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Daggerheart, Curseborne, Shadow Scar, and more

Is Curseborn part of the World of Darkness setting? Or the Chronicles of Darkness setting? Or it's own setting, but same genre?

D&D General Where to start with Mystara?

There isn't a single world-book for the setting, but rather there was a series of regional sourcebooks, the "Gazeteer" series. This series is why Mystara fandom exists, IMO. They're not all solid hits, but overall the series is pretty good. The Gazeteers are all BECMI D&D...

    D&D 5E (2014) "You Can Do 3 Things" - My Nephew's D&D Houserule

For those not in the know . . . Nimble is a 5E hack to make 5E more, well, nimble and quick. There are two versions, the original Nimble which is a book of alternate rules systems for 5E, and a newer version which is a separate game to itself.

RPG Evolution: Inspiration from the Garden of the Gods

Grew up near the garden . . . the whole area is incredible geologically . . . and it's also super nostalgic for me. In addition to the red sandstone, there are limestone deposits nearby with some amazing caves, "Cave of the Winds".

D&D General Has 5e become noise?

Wow! Maybe it's just an increase in marketing then . . . or maybe my exhaustion is catching up with me since 2023 or so . . .

D&D General Has 5e become noise?

It's just anecdotal . . . but I feel the same way. There has certainly been a lot of 5E material put out all the way back to 2014, but relatively recently there feels like an uptick. I mostly notice this on Kickstarter, where there are a LOT of 5E projects constantly churning through. I do play...
