    What are you leaving out?

Cool things: Bone elves Plant elves Sky Dwarves Swamplings (halfling) Ice gnomes Purple men (humen) Devil dogs (gnolls) Clockwork men (warforged) Tabaxi (cat people) Shadow elves (drow) Cave orcs Most of this occurs by tying a specific terrain area or habitat to a race.

    D&D 5E (2014) Countering Dispel Magic

Dispel magic is targeted (creature, object or effect) now and not area now. So those ideas do not work. I think the best way is to add in some sort of DC. How about just d20 + level it is cast at vs 10 + spell level. Do not take into account the caster level and caster stat. That is the simplest...

    Armor as DR

Orich Starkhart you are very sharp. Much appreciated. I think your proposition of some mix between size category of the attacker and the target of the attack makes sense. This could be when the parry bonus of your weapons apply and when they do not apply. So if the some size categories bigger...

    D&D 5E (2014) Cursed Items and Identify

I thought that the cursed components should come out of the items themselves and become adders to the other items. For instance, the devouring bag and the berserker axe have good unique qualities to them. The compulsions and things added onto them are the bad stuff though.

D&D 5E (2014) Blog of Holding Takes on Treasure Distribution and 1 XP/1 GP

The other thing you could do: they must spend their money to gain the XP. This introduces an interesting idea to keep characters always trying to spend everything they gain of their ill gotten gains. In this way the magic items they keep and do not sell off turn into XP banks.

    Armor as DR

This approaches the a castle wall falls does it have to roll to hit you? No likely you make a DEX save to avoid it hitting you. When very large creatures attack it feels like it should be an area attack. Then you have to dodge it. Ah I missed this they have Hide (Medium armor) and so this would...

    Armor as DR

This is a doable system. You just have to have a called shot system in play. Also I don't thing plate should make you immune to damage, I can see if you wanted to model combat like that you could increase the DR of of plate to slashing damage (and potentially other types of damage as well)...

    Armor as DR

I agree with this and this was the intent - make certain weapons and items more and less defensively attuned. So a longsword vs a battleaxe might be: Longsword 1d8, +2 Parry, slashing/piercing Battleaxe 1d10, +1 Parry, slashing Of course that is how I would do it if I were rewriting the weapon...

    Armor as DR

Thanks for the compliments. Essentially everyone gets the Parry "skill". Everyone gets to apply their proficiency bonus to some weapons or magical attacks so everyone is proficient in parrying. As to the weapons and them increasing your parry. I think a big weapon can hold things at bay and...

D&D 5E (2014) Surprise with a fight in progress is possible?

It is not surprise though. It would be them coming into the already established initiative flow. I would have them roll initiative and can join in the fight at any moment. They would be hidden or not hiding depending on their heavy obscurement and stealth roll. When they leave heavy obscurement...

D&D 5E (2014) New Scroll Questions: Warrior Champion can use Scrolls? - Scrolls of reaction spells ?

Yes their spell list is the wizard's spell list so they should be able to cast any spell on the wizard spell list (that they have access to). So meaning any abjuration or evocation spell. The arcane trickster rogue would be similar, wizard spell list with their two schools. As to the bonus...

    Armor as DR

Thanks! I agree I feel the shield is the best defense you can get, when referring to helping dodge/deflect blows. Also, the sword is an excellent parrying weapon when compared to a hafted weapon. This is glossed over in D&D. And further, armor makes you easier to be hit but makes you more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Variant rule oversight?

I was thinking of using this variant for advantage/disadvantage: three levels +2/-2, +5/-5, natural '20'/natural '1'. Of course a natural '20' would count as a crit and natural '1' an automatic failure.

D&D 5E (2014) Why are vague rules praised?

I would like to put this out there, this is a very astute look at rule making. There is no set of rules that will get what we need. It is naive to think that any set of rules can cover every possible situation or loophole. Further, a wise person knows how to bend rules for the right reasons...

D&D 5E (2014) On the healing options in the 5e DMG

I do not think that is a legitimate gripe. Someone can like many aspects and vocally dislike many aspects and still be interested in the game. You are not required to like all aspects of the game to consider purchasing it or even playing it. At the same time, I think you are reacting to...

D&D 5E (2014) On the healing options in the 5e DMG

The only thing you may need to do is adjust the short rest class features and long rest recovery of class features. Perhaps, when you modify this way you can make the warlock get more slots per rest, or convert them to standard spell slots per day. For fighter surges and similar things it is...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's on your psionics wishlist for 5E?

I am in the no new classes group, Sorcerer with the Psion sub-class or telepath subclass, then create a telekineticist subclass and so on. Give each of them a specialized spell list. Then, the fighter can have the psychic warrior and the rogue can have the mind thief (or whatever) subclasses...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the logic behind one 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th level spell?

So the best arguments I have seen are: Lower level non-damaging spells are still effective due to bounded accuracy. High level opponents will not have proficiency in every save and so you can target one of their bad ones. 4 "high level" spells are all right because non-casters do not get that...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the logic behind one 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th level spell?

I need some help with the logic behind limiting 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th level spells to one per day. On face value it appears this is to combat the quadratic caster. But then the scaling of spells means in high level play you only have up to four spells per day that are effective while the lower...

    Incantatrix, a sorcerous origin

I could not wait ;). I copy pasted the text into notepad and then copied here. I've moved on to Dragon Magazine #90, and the spell stealing incantatrix, by Ed Greenwood. This was an NPC class I fell in love with when I first read it, but never had the chance to use. In this conversion, I've...
