    Worlds of Design: Only Human

But D&D is not Tolkien nor Middle Earth. D&D dwarves and elves are physically and mentally able to be valuable adult members of society at the same age as humans. As long as you have the resources, it makes no sense why an elf or dwarven would expend significantly more resources on their...

    Worlds of Design: Only Human

My point is that the generations of dwarves and elves are a BS excuse by World builders in order to inflate human population and deflate elf and dwarf population. Because in no way and nowhere do most settings say that an elf male and an elf female can only have one offspring within a...

D&D General Dragonborn In Your Game (A Poll)

Personally I am a huge fan of Magic Genetics 1) Humanoid species can gain special racial features by gaining enough HD or levels and going through physical training, spiritual meditation, or magical ritual. Dragonborn can grow wings, tails, or extra arms. Tieflings can grow wings, tails, extra...

D&D General Dragonborn In Your Game (A Poll)

In my game Default Dragonborn don't have wings nor tails. But Dragonborn of martial or physical fitness can grow wings, a functional tail, or a 2nd pair of arms. And a spell can grant it as well

    Worlds of Design: Only Human

The bolded is the mistake. Humans in the time periods D&D replicate... die a lot. Yes, human populations can explode. But until medical and agricultural advancement occurs, humans hit a population cap and sloooows dooown. It goes from 5/5 children surviving to marriage and family to 2.5/5...

    D&D 5E (2024) Subclassing the Warrior Veteran

Actions Multiattack. The warrior (Battlemaster) makes two Rapier or Heavy Crossbow attacks. Rapier Melee Attack Roll: +5, reach 5 ft. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) Slashing damage. The warrior also creates one of the following effects: Disarm. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 13) or...

    Worlds of Design: Only Human

I don't even think people prefer 1 anymore. Kinda feeling that "modern" setting have no problem with tons of elves and dwarves and them being as seen as humans.

    Worlds of Design: Only Human

Yeah but many post 1990s setting have elves and dwarves be very active. So there is a sense of dissonance.

    Worlds of Design: Only Human

That never made sense to me. Dwarves and Elves live longer. And they age slower. And they have healing magic or stronger bodies. And they don't fight internal wars (after the first major subrace one) So they're hundred year olds and 200 year olds would still be alive when humans elderly would...

    D&D 5E (2024) Subclassing the Warrior Veteran

Humaniods Most of the Eldritch Knights and Arcane Archers are elves. Well I was just going to change their attacks. Like the Champion would be the standard 2 attacks Greatsword/Longbow Eldritch Knight would get Greatsword/Cantrips Arcane Archer would have a weaker 1d10 Longbow but be able...

    Worlds of Design: Only Human

In the one I created during 4e, Dragonborn 1) Each climate had Dragonborn matching the dragons native to that climate. 2) The players loved Dragonborn and saw it ridiculous that a game called Dungeon and Dragons didn't lean hard into Dragon people.

    D&D 5E (2024) Subclassing the Warrior Veteran

One of the rolling villianous enemies I use when I DM is a planar, multiversal Warrior Guild of warriors who travel the planes and settings, collecting impressionable warriors and magic equipment, and competing with the party for loot. (pretend to roll on a Random Encounter table) Me: Suddenly...

D&D General Belts of Giant Strength?

One thing I also did is create a set of magic items that are tied to weight class. In honor of Summer Slam: Champions Belt Wondrous Item, varies (requires attunement) While wearing this belt, your Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores changes to the scores granted by the belt. The item...

D&D General Dnd is a 10th level game, how's the balance?

If you go with 5+ encounters per day and 1-3 short rests per long rest, levels 1-10 is pretty balanced. Casters don't have the slots to dominate over 4 encounters to overshadow Martials. Bonuses are low unless extremely powergamed and with massive drawbacks.

D&D General How many healing potions do you give your party?

Very common. There is a whole basic healing potion economy in both my settings. But only adventurers, high ranking officers, and nobility enter it. Every town who has a healer, alchemist, or apothecary has healing potions. However they are too expensive for commoners. But healing potions...

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

A wave IMO is a playstyle, culture, or genre of RPG which either dominated the TTRPG discussion, popularized mechanics, lore, or ideology that other RPGs draw from, or set/fathered a trend of new RPGs.
