(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Team Caves Valendra sighed and said, "The Arcane Brotherhood seeks knowledge above all else. It is true that sometimes we must ally ourselves with... less than savory organizations. I know very little about the Wyrmspeaker and his 'pet', but I have heard tantalizing rumours that they are near...

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's dream up new FR-style books for other Settings.

Right, thanks! I think they're on the right track with the DM/Player split. And I think that they love the idea of selling you two books for the price of two (I'm less of a fan of this approach, even as a retailer, but this looks like something they'd be interested in continuing, and at least...

(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Team Fusion The two groups were gathered in the obelisk's cavern, on a high ledge to the west of the underground lake. They had a bite to eat and adjusted their armor, checked themselves for wounds and rested. The kayaks were piled next to the north wall of the cavern, and Loklafd sheathed his...

Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun - First Impressions

If anyone is interested, I started a thread about brainstorming using this format for other locations and settings. Feel free to join me with your knowledge of those settings, because I tend to forget stuff about even the ones that I know well!

New Unearthed Arcana Brings Back Five Subclasses

Warrior of the Staggering Style? You're right. They sure did back themselves into a corner with the "Warrior of" thing.

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's dream up new FR-style books for other Settings.

I'll try one. Feel free to jump in! I'd like to see Dark Sun in this format, and unlike (what seems like) half the people on these boards, I think that we'll probably see it sooner rather than never. I haven't played DS in too long to have a good idea what it might look like, other than...

D&D General Has Tiny Hut actually affected your game? Or has it otherwise mattered?

In 10+ years of DMing 1 to 4 games a week, I have never seen it used, not even after giving it to a couple of PreGens I made.

D&D General Initial Thoughts on the Two 2025 Forgotten Realms books

I think that you would be fine with just the Adventures book. There's some solid "how (this place) looks to your chatacter" stuff in the Heroes book, plus Gods (useful for DMing a cleric player) and Factions (which includes a lot of the political landscape), but how useful that is depends on...

    D&D 5E (2024) Let's dream up new FR-style books for other Settings.

In another thread, I was discussing what an Underdark-themed book in the format of the new Forgotten Realms Heroes of Faerun & Adventures in Faerun books, and what that would look like. ... I recognise that an Underdark-themed book would not technically necessarily "count" as a different...

D&D General What Is In The New FR Books That IS Useful Outside FR?

Aside from how you can just use the stuff you like, there is also a thing called "schismogenesis". I won't get in to the whole theory on my phone, but my point is: It is often nice to have an example, if only so you know what you don't want. If there is a particular thing that you don't like...

2024 D&D Core Rulebooks Off to "Strongest-Ever" Start for D&D Books

I opened Nov 1, 1993 - 32 years ago Today! I was 19 at the time. Now my kids work here (when they are not too busy with college).

D&D General Adventurers in Faerun-The Book of Low and Mid Level Adventures?

The only time I've ever played 5e above Level 11 was here on ENWorld, when we ran a Level 20 playtest to see if we could beat the Vecna statblock as-written. (IIRC, we lost, tried again, and stomped on him, having figured out what we did wrong). I was surprised that I didn't hate it, but it...

D&D 5E (2024) Changes to the Command spell and its use at the table.

I've found that generally my players avoid any spell that feels like a total waste when I roll high enough to make the save. Somehow, my players feel that "missing" with an attack somehow feels less disappointing than a save-or-suck spell being successfully saved against, even though it amounts...

D&D General How often do you use or encounter Dungeons and/or Dragons in your games?

Pretty much any location can be seen as a "Dungeon", even if it's not literally a dungeon. The same could be said for Dragons, but I don't think I agree with that comparison in the same way. I like to include Dragons where appropriate, but no where near as often as Dungeons. OTOH, there were...

D&D General What Is In The New FR Books That IS Useful Outside FR?

Not at all. I just disagree with you on that point. For example, what does it matter what world a quarry filled with cultists was written for? It's pretty easy for them not to be cultists of Bane, or whatever. Does a Purple Dragon Squire background change if you scratch out Purple Dragon and...

D&D General What Is In The New FR Books That IS Useful Outside FR?

Pretty much all of the crunch is easily refluffed for any setting. Pretty much all of the Adventures could be placed anywhere. Pretty much all of the fluff could be remixed or used as a basis of comparison ("My world doesn't have THAT, it has THIS instead!") So... Pretty much all of it? YMMV.

New Unearthed Arcana Brings Back Five Subclasses

The former is wetter than the latter.

New Unearthed Arcana Brings Back Five Subclasses

It's so obvious, too - if they feel the need to change the name (I can't really fathom why) then the obvious name would be... Warrior of the Brew Master. That was cooler when I typed "Way of the Brew Master" before I remembered that they already stopped using "Way of..." Which is also weird, IMO.
