"Hydras have many heads, from what I've heard," Terrin says from his seat on the cave floor. "Trying to sneak past one sounds like a good way for someone to get killed. Might it not be better for a strong swimmer among us to serve as a decoy, possibly to draw the beast out where we can all engage with it while another of us goes behind to steal the idol?"

URGAN -- TEAM CAVES

The dark breath of the orc Urgan comes from behind the prisoner. "What does your Arcane Brotherhood need or want with this place?"

He looks for telltale signs that she is being deceptive or hiding something, hoping to help anyone who is skilled in determining thoughts. The blinking light, dim as it was, fades from view.

Lorent looks up from his summoning circle after healing as best as he could.
"Once we wake hydra, there is no going back, that one bait is in grave danger. Stealth with good spell support might go better and bait should be used only if that someone is discovered."
After that he focuses on his ritual and soon enough, Saphhirion is again next to him.

TEAM FUSION(?) = SUBJECT:SHADE-9 - Operation Hydra

Shade-9 had maintained his position monitoring the interactions in the caverns and in the water around him, processing mission variables, collating data, updating internal protocols. But the revelation that followed the surge in divine energy as Terrin set the broken stone back into place was enough to jolt him to high alert as partial data matches and warnings flashed through his Primary Drives:

[PRIMARY ARCHIVE: OGREMOCH - Prince of Elemental Evil, Earth Aspect Threat Tier: Cataclysmic (World-Class)]

The mountain was not simply tainted with magic; it was a festering wound and the black rock the scab that the broken obelisk was meant to contain. How did the statues and the staff that Imani had engaged them to recover connect to the Obelisk function and the cataclysmic threat of Ogremoch?

At least the Hydra was not the cataclysmic evil, though it did remain an obstacle to their mission.

"I concur with [Subject:Lorent]" Shade-9 stepped forward, speaking with a level tone in responses to Terrins suggestion that a decoy strategy be used to bait the Hydra "previous interactions indicate that the creature is not aggressive, though you are correct that it is in a torpor rather than fully dormant, individual heads do appear to react to stimulus.

However we do not have sufficient data on the creatures' capabilities if fully awakened, though I predict 78% casualty rate and further threat of environmental collapse if full combat engagement occurs.

Engaging Stealth Protocols offers highest probability of success with minimal loss of mission critical resources. Disturbance of the Hydra should only be considered as last resort if Stealth proves ineffectual.
"

[Mission Log Updated: Primary Objective: Recover Bhaalite Idol.
Secondary Objective: Monitor Environmental stability.
Contingency: Prevent hydra rampage or release of arcane taint > Ogremoch. <

TEAM FUSION - Bjorn-frog

Bjorn-frog frowned after observing the actions of Terrin and listening to his words. So this is the root of the unquietness he had been sensing. A despoiler of nature's balance, and a foul corruption of the earth. The sickness must be purged to let the rocks sing once more.

He then turned his attention back to the task at hand with renewed conviction, certain as he was that the earth was guiding them to help heal it. He positioned himself near the shore, ready to enter the pool once more at Shade's signal.

It shall be done.

"I am not a member of the Cult of the Dragon. I am part of the Arcane Brotherhood from Luskan. Dulsen here is a mercenary from Iriaebor. If your beef is with the Dragon-lovers for usurping your temple, Bhaalite, you should take it up with Wyrmspeaker Silakul."
Merrick felt the power leaving him. He didn't feel like these people would interfere if they were dealt with properly.

Listen, it seems we have no quarrel with you, really, but obviously you have allied yourself with the Cult of the Dragon, or made some kind of mutual compromise - I mean, those cultists attacked us.

In any case, your research will have to be put on hold until our business is done. It shouldn't be a long delay. It might even make your work easier in the end. Just continue to cooperate show us how the teleporters work and answer our questions.

What's your arrangement with them? What do you know of Wyrmspeaker Silakul and the dragon?

She went on to answer regarding the green crystals, "That is what I am trying to discover. It seems that this ancient vessel was transporting something from far away. Something not of Toril."
"You're not sure what it does but you told us it was dangerous earlier. Why? Does it explode or something? I want details. If it's not from Toril, where's it from?

And he reiterated Urgan's question,

"What's so special that the Arcane Brotherhood wants to snoop around?

"I don't know much about elementals, I thought we were here for dragon cultists? Anyway. If we need stealth, I might not look it, but I'm sneaky." The goliath offered.

Team Fusion

Aywin casts spells that bolster the company before he rests a bit. He follows the obelisk investigation somewhat aloof, he knows he cannot contribute much. Once the team seem restes he nods at Shade9 "ready?"

Team Fusion

The two groups were gathered in the obelisk's cavern, on a high ledge to the west of the underground lake. They had a bite to eat and adjusted their armor, checked themselves for wounds and rested. The kayaks were piled next to the north wall of the cavern, and Loklafd sheathed his glowing sword, leaving the only light coming from the crack in the ceiling, where somewhere far overhead, the light of the outside world worked its way into the cavern.

A plan to attempt to sneak past the hydra was formed - an expedition to the bottom of the deep pool in the south-east corner, where a flicker of torchlight could be seen from a stone archway on a ledge above the muddy banks of the lake. Svetlana flew in a circle over the bank, her devil's eyes could only just make out the form of the hydra, deep in the darkness of the pool. It appeared to be dormant, but it was well-known that at least one head would always be awake, looking for threats and for food.

Somewhere at the bottom of that pool, according to Stryke the Drow, they hoped to find an Idol of Bhaal. A report had come through Imani's Sending Stones. One of the four Idols that they sought had been found by another group, somewhere in the caves to the north-east. If they could achieve this feat, Imani's Agents would be half-way to done the main thrust of their mission.

OOC: I'm going to need some more concrete information about your approach. It doesn't need to be a better plan, but I need to know who's going where, doing what. Here's a map to help!

Team Caves

Valendra sighed and said, "The Arcane Brotherhood seeks knowledge above all else. It is true that sometimes we must ally ourselves with... less than savory organizations. I know very little about the Wyrmspeaker and his 'pet', but I have heard tantalizing rumours that they are near to unlocking some great secret of the Uvarenni Lorekeepers. They have promised to share some tidbits, and I had hoped to gain their favour to learn more."

She paused for a moment, hoping that this had satisfied her captors, but when they pressed for more, she continued, "While I wait for news of their discovery, they have tasked me with learning more about the mystery of this ship. So far, I know little, other than that I take it to be some ancient attempt at Astral Travel. I am uncertain as to if the crystals were some sort of fuel, or a cargo, but they are unlike anything that I have seen."

She went over some specifics that were very technical and mostly meaningless for the purposes of Imani's Agents, but explained how the crystals absorbed ambient localized magic.

"Unfortunately, they have been corrupted by time, or by exposure to this place." she gestured generally around her and sneered, as if uncomfortable with the very nature of her surroundings, "At any rate, they are volatile, and will explode if exposed, for too long, to nearby manipulations of the Weave."

For his part, the mercenary added, "I, uh... hold torches and look out for trouble. For money, but that is hardly a crime."
