    RPG Settings

Greetings! I have been re-reading my Dark Sun stuff and I noticed something. Now that the world is no longer supported, being able to read all about the setting and see what the designers had done and what they were going to do (usually through interviews after the line is canceled or done)...

    D&D Tactics

So, did you are didn't you like the Dark Sun games? Just curious as it wasn't obvious to me. And, I have a DS as well, much prefer it to PSP which can get waaaaaay too expensive with special movies for it and my DVD player, and would LOVE to see some DND games (gold box or the Dark Sun ones)...

    "Hail, Dungeon Master"

Sorry, as I do know that. The episode was the Mischevous Elf with Glenn Quin. The scene is that Jesse goes with Sean (Quin) on a date and he says they have to go someplace. Turns out it is a DND game. The scene I want, and hence my title, is that the players are all standing around when...

    "Hail, Dungeon Master"

Greetings! Does anyone have a link to the Jesse show where they play DND? I have tried googling it with multiple keywords but can't find it. If anyone knows where I could find it, I would appreciate it! Thanks! Have a good one! Take care! edg

How many of you came close to selling off your stuff?

I have gone through several purges in the past decade. The reasons have been either for some ready cash or to save space. So far, I have not regretted it because the stuff I have sold was stuff I didn't use. Stuff I sold includes: 1E and 2E stuff - wasn't using them anymore Settings I...

What don't you like about D&D?

Ooops. You are correct sir. I did take it too far. Sorry about that. Have a good one! Take care! edg

What do you like about D&D?

Yes. I like DND in that it got me into RPGs and I enjoy playing them. Have a good one! Take care! edg

What don't you like about D&D?

And this may be the crux of it. The issue is also about the people playing DND and what they do with the rules. I want a rules system to assist me in telling a story. I don't think DND does that, for the reasons listed here. However, lots of people can use it for that purpose and have lots...

What don't you like about D&D?

YES! That too! Or that giants are about as easy. It creates this image that dragons and giants and other big monsters aren't that scary, because the players have learned the numbers. They stop looking at them with awe and reverence. I think looking up at a dragon should always have some...

What don't you like about D&D?

Mainly because there is the catch-22 of above. The character have lots of hit points which means that they can be hit by lots and lots of bullets before they go down. And they are at no penalty during that time. That's the point of hit points. Yet now there is a rule that drops them with one...

What don't you like about D&D?

Cool! Glad to know it can work. I had players who complained, imagine that!, that they had lots o' hit points, so there is no way a single shot should do it. Again, I chalk it up to the system, which influenced me and my players at the time. Have a good one! Take care! edg

What don't you like about D&D?

First, to the OP. I agree with what you said. I will also add hit points. They get ridiculous at high levels. My other issues are with the "style" of DND and its rules. The style seems to be almost incompetent characters at low levels, good at mid levels and super heroic at high levels...

Is there any real world analogue to the Adventurer?

To answer the OP with my own answers: Julius Caesar - He invaded Gaul to get the money and fame needed to be consul and have a triumph. Alexander the Great - More of a thrill seeker, really. Gladiators - Some were not slaves and it was their only way to make it. Charlemagne - He conquered...

The Ruins of Undermountain - your experiences?

I never ran completely through this but have used it recently. I ended up taking a different tact to it. I photocopied the maps at about 10% to have the maps on 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper. Then, I went through and made an "ecology" of the various levels. I put the known monster groups in...

    Statting Jarlaxle?

Actually, I don't have the book in front of me, but I think he was done in the Menzo boxed set. I think he was a 18 fighter, nothing else. Remember, in 2E they made exceptions to fit the description, so he might have had some ability to move silently and hide. Further, wands and other items...

    RANT: Attacks of Opportunity

We are off topic, which is usually why I try and at least mention AoOs. Btw, it isn't my quote but a designer at WotC who said that the bonus is more important at higher levels. I just can't find it. Not sure who said it or where it was. Ah, well. Have a good one! Take care! edg

    RANT: Attacks of Opportunity

Okay, but you are forcing your example to fit with scaling damage. My point is simply this. The "standard" MM orc, with no changes, is deadly to characters of up to 3rd level, especially mages with their low hit points. (IIRC, this orc does d12+4 damage on a hit.) Clerics and fighters are...

    RANT: Attacks of Opportunity

From the wiki: Metagaming is a broad term usually used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. I am sorry I didn't start here and...
