    General video game discussion

But there was a time when you played it semi-regularly? Twenty years ago, I used to log into EverQuest fairly regularly - the cycle has slowed - I may log into in once a year or one-and-a-half years, just for a brief taste before going on to other things. NMS never quite reached that point.

D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

In the alternate universe in which I'm still alive in 2044, I'd probably buy the books just to check them out. I'm a mortal 'Uatu the Watcher', observing all the moments dispassionately, but with a certain curiosity.

My experience is similar - I'll get interested by something, an update maybe, try it again briefly, and the game's loop will push me away from it once again.

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

Sounds like corpo-speak needs a healthy dose of internet shorthand - they should preface their financial tweets with 'ngl' so that everyone knows they're sincere.

D&D General Settings of Hope vs Settings of Despair

One of the neat things about Tolkienian cosmology is that other philosophies can be applied to it better than or as well as Catholicism - there's a cyclical nature, and recurring motifs in many of the stories that could easily fit Buddhism/Stoicism/Existentialism/Epicureanism. The beautiful and...

Geek Confessional Thread 2024 [NOW 2025!]

I've never played and have no intention of playing MtG. I prefer Silmarillion to LotR. I watched 'The Force Awakens', thought it was very meh, and haven't bothered with the other two sequel films. I've no interest in reading Dune. I think Denis Villanueve is a great filmmaker though...

D&D General 'Project Sigil' 3D Virtual Tabletop Finally Laid To Rest

If there's one conclusion to be drawn from the above, it's that there's obviously room for more VTT environments for different aesthetic tastes/hardware specs - I'd enjoy seeing Sigil continue to grow & take shape in under a different oversight/management arrangement: private (sold)...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

    I've used '5.5E' and '5E2024'.

    Trailer Solasta 2 Trailer

Will this use the 5.5 ruleset? My wife and I enjoyed playing Solasta - if this improves upon that, I can see us playing this co-op. If finances (or significant discounts) allow, I could probably talk her into playing BG3 together in the interim.

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

Yes, I used to enjoy shooting a 70# Bear Kodiak when I was a strapping young buck, but I prefer recurves in the 45 - 50# range these days. =)

Fantasy Stories That Don’t Romanticise the Past

An article concerning the influence of Arthurian cycle (whether specifically from Geoffrey of Monmouth, or Mallory, or Chrétien de Troyes) and its influences on and similarities to LotR. https://journals.tolkiensociety.org/mallorn/article/download/118/112 By the modern day, there are many...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

I played 3E more than I played B/X and 1E. At least seven different campaigns over however many years. It was fun, probably more for the cameraderie than the rules themselves. One of the campaigns was set in the Warhammer world, for which I have no particular fondness, but my character and...

D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

I have several, I'm sure I could loan one out - what's your preferred draw weight?

Do you use "voice acting" when you play?

I used to, when I was much younger and everyone with whom I played was also - I'd probably be too self-conscious to do it in the presence of others my own age now, especially strangers. =)

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I'm not familiar with the expression "'marks' class" and "'smites' class" - is that just colloquial for the classes that do those actions/have those features? (I have no knowledge of 2014, only 2024).

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I'm in the cohort that strongly prefers to read the books over watch shows adapted from them - I was never a part of its intended audience. I'm glad that it may introduce more readers to Tolkien's writing, but I have no intention of watching it, nor review bombing it - its a potentially...

D&D General 'Project Sigil' 3D Virtual Tabletop Finally Laid To Rest

I had just downloaded it yesterday and was enjoying playing around in its environment. Were I part of a regular remote/online game, I'd have loved to use this - beautiful visuals and sound, a strong tactile interface & presentation.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I couldn't make it through the first book, but I'd probably watch the show if it was well-executed.

So what's the deal with solo gaming?

I tried this one - it seemed a bit clunky with searching through pages for the (what happens next) keyword, and I think I got a bit bored with it once I went in a circle without stumbling across how to get to the next major clue / plot point. Did anyone play it through to the end and have a...
