Do creatures called via Gate count as Summoned or Conjured?

Gated creatured are Called. Protection spells and Magic Circles will not protect you from being touched by Called creatures.

    Chacters that hate other characters

When I DM, I lay down ground rules describing acceptable behavior. Unless the "party" consists of pre-established friends, I don't expect them to become immediate chums. If one PC becomes odious to others, I don't particularly contrive matters so that they all get along. I don't believe in the...

PrC for priest of Wee Jas?

That's an ... interesting ... page you posted. Not very 3e, but quite thorough. I have a cleric-8/rogue-2 priest of Wee Jas. I haven't found a PrC that I liked, simply because I don't want to give up my spellcasting or my ability to rebuke undead. I've focused myself on crafting unique magic...

The Heretic of Wyre - Part II

*ROFL* I, too, expect my CE demon lords to sow evil and mayhem in a reasonable fashion without inconveniencing the Prime or the celestial hosts. Good one, Cheiromancer! :D

The Heretic of Wyre - Part II

Let's just make it an adjective or an adverb, in addition to being a pronoun. "You're so wyre!" "God made me wyre." "Wyre!" "I do not think that word means what you think it means." "Are we there yet, Papa Wyre?" "Not yet, my little wyres."

The Heretic of Wyre - Part II

So damn cool. Best story hour ever. Up you go!

    Use of Crystal Ball

*Boggle* It's certainly a reasonable interpretation, to allow Crystal Balls to be used with a standard action. It's how Mostin the Metagnostic saves his friends, after all, with his Mirror of Mental Prowess. But it just feels so wrong!

How Would You Defend A Mountain Fortress?

Given a dozen shadowdancers with their shadow companions, start turning the rank and file Valloreans into uncontrolled shadows. Make use of the terrain and strike from below, night after night.

What Happens When You Go Lich?

Because the lich template does not impart an ECL, while being half-dragon and fiendish does? If the recommended wealth tables from the DMG are used, the lich wizard 12 will have very little else when compared to any other wizard 12. Like many other DMs, I have reservations about handing out...

What Happens When You Go Lich?

I'm going to revisit the original question: does the PC have an ECL. To my knowledge, by the core books, the answer is no. Should the PC have an ECL? If he was given the phylactery free of charge at 1st level, sure. Does being a lich have benefits? Yes. Does being a lich have drawbacks? Yes...

What Happens When You Go Lich?

Hey Valicor, as you've already said yourself, you're not the DM but time itself may be the limiting factor. If the other PCs are worried about upsetting the balance, you've a number of suggestions on this thread. If the DM is looking for options, point him to this thread. But you're protesting...

What Happens When You Go Lich?

You, Crothian, Bastoche, and mikebr99 vote yes. Kraedin, smetzger, and I vote no. You have a majority, if not exactly a consensus. But hey, this is the EN Boards -- a majority is pretty darn good. :)

What Happens When You Go Lich?

Hmm. I'm aware that adding the Lich template also adds +2 to CR, but I didn't realize that you're supposed to add ECL to non-starting characters. I guess I equate lichdom to infected lycanthropy, or vampirism, or even a weird Reincarnation roll. I vote with Kraedin: the PC must satisfy all the...

    Harniacs vs. d20/D&D players

People fear the unknown. Peasants fear wizards. I played in a Harn campaign where the wizards (shek pvar) majorly screwed up and caused the inadvertant genocide of an entire subject race (Jarin). Sure, we were broke and powerless, but we also had a ton of fun ridiculing and beating down our...

    Harniacs vs. d20/D&D players

History? Not really. But extremism can be found pretty much anywhere.

Limited Wish/Wish to respec a character?

Hi, me again. If you've not played Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, please know that it can alternately be a meatgrinder or a mystery. Kestrel has already posted his frustrations with a few powergamers in the party, and has taken steps to add more intrigue to the plot. I love intrigue...

Limited Wish/Wish to respec a character?

Good point about the Blackguard precedent and the possible need for divine intervention. As the player of said wizard, I guess I won't know what happens until I try. I seek to fill what I perceive as a gap in our efforts to survive RttToEE and save Greyhawk, and can only hope to make it. Wow...

Can you cleave after making an AoO?

I remember a raging argument on this exact same topic on the Necromancer Boards. Someone actually got a reply from Skip Williams, and he supports Cleaving off of AoO. I don't, but that's IMC.

    Dwarf books comparative review?

Stop watching this thread and start working on half-orcs! ;) I love my copy of HoHF: Dwarves. I can't use any of it for my dwarf wizard and his half-orc brother (adopted), since we're in RttToEE and the world is about to explode, but if we save the world I plan on immersing my character in the...

    Targeted Dispel

I'd have to vote no. If a spell is already on a creature or object, I think you'd need to target the creature or object. I, too, think the "spell" option is only for independent environmental effects (or counterspelling).
