Hasbro Opens New Wizards of the Coast Video Game Studio in Montreal to Support D&D Franchise

Different management, different strategies. But yeah, the opening and closing of game studios within WotC sure seems like the company does not have its act together. And folks losing jobs is the result. Yay, capitalism! Hopefully, this time around the decisions will be stronger and more...

Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set: Heroes on the Borderlands Review

What you are asking, that we shouldn't lessen the reading/thinking skills necessary to play D&D, is NOT gatekeeping, IMO. These are the benefits the game can bring to young minds, giving them motivation to improve those skills. Its the reasoning educators use to advocate for RPGs in schools and...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Not so much "in-universe" but metaphorically. In universe, they gave the same wishy-washy explanation as above, that since the serum is based on Spock, somehow Spock's view of Vulcans is affecting the team. Makes no sense to me. But the metaphor Umbran mentions I think is the writer's intent...

Kickstarter [Kobold Press] Northlands: Epic Norse Adventures for D&D 2024 & Tales of the Valiant

Maybe this isn't possible with current restrictions or with bringing in enough to cover costs, but what would have made me excited to click the "Back this project" button . . . Tier A: PDF only - Includes both 5E and ToV versions, $30 for one title, $40 for both titles. Not sure how DDB...

Marvel Multiverse RPG is now available in PDF.

You can get the book in web format on demiplane.com . . . which is super easy to search through, although I don't think you can do so offline.

Kickstarter [Kobold Press] Northlands: Epic Norse Adventures for D&D 2024 & Tales of the Valiant

That's what I expected but . . . having the 5E and ToV versions being priced as separate products I find frustrating, since they are very similar. I'm still deciding on whether to back the Kickstarter, but I think I would've jumped immediately if the PDF tiers simply included both versions of...

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Northlands, Tales from Elsewhere, and more

This might be the first Kobold crowdfunder that I take a pass on . . . Partly because I'm not sure I need a new version of the Northlands of Midgard, although I'm sure this will be well done . . . But I was turned off by the 5E, ToV, and D&D Beyond versions all being separately priced. How...

Invincible RPG Kickstarter to Launch on September 23rd

Sorry, I couldn't resist! But thanks for the details on this crowdfunder! I've really enjoyed the animated show on Amazon, I might check out the RPG!

Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Borderlands - First Impressions

The boxed set comes with very nice poster maps. And tokens, player handouts . . . and if you are introducing new players to the game, well, that's the whole point of this boxed set.

Yeah, sorry, I was overly sensitive on that one. Shouldn't post at work where the default mode is being overly sensitive.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Heh, I read that as "landmines" . . . Actually, Pelia having a box full of antique landline phones . . . no, I didn't care for that storyline. But more importantly, Pelia has some great character moments, and some great engineer moments, but overall I think she is underused. Is that okay if I...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Yeah . . . but she could have been doing that AND some awesome engineering! I've absolutely loved Carol Kane as Pelia in SNW, because I've loved just about everything she's ever done . . . but I do think her potential was wasted. Her portrayal is wonderful, but could have been so much more! Of...

D&D 5E (2024) Teos talks about using the hero’s of the Borderlands Starter Box to run games.

Oh sure, yeah. Even the modules were a lot "lighter" than what we expect today, and you were expected to adapt them to your own homebrewed campaign. There were a lot of good "B" series modules . . . but certainly the next "classic" after B2 Keep on the Borderlands was X1 The Isle of Dread!

D&D 5E (2024) Teos talks about using the hero’s of the Borderlands Starter Box to run games.

Kind of. Keep on the Borderlands was bundled with one of the iterations of the D&D Basic Set. The next boxed set in the series, the D&D Expert Set, came bundled with the Isle of Dread. But the expectation was that groups would play other modules in the "B" series before moving on to the Expert Set.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Hard disagree. A crappy, low-effort MMO would be an insane thing to do in the year 2025, sure. But a well-done, top-tier effort MMO . . . good games are always welcome! And IME, do well commercially.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I'm not an expert on the various VTTs on the market today, but . . . I do know there are already at least 2 that actually do use generative algorithms to generate 3D maps or dungeon rooms. Dungeon Alchemist is one of them. I've played around with it, and it's kinda fun, but I've never been...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

If somebody gave me a fully featured, ready-to-rock, 3D VTT that was easy to use as a DM and as a player . . . I'd give that a run! But it's hard to make happen, seeing as nobody's really done it yet. The 3D VTTs that are out there currently all seem like more trouble than they are worth, or...

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

Hmmm, looks like I am remembering the shift as stronger than it actually was . . . but it seemed pretty revolutionary, and controversial among fans, at the time. I still prefer the 4E take over the 5E take, even if it wasn't quite the strong shift I remember. But I prefer my imperfect memory...
