    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

But they did in 4e. I'm just pointing out the irony of posters insisting canon must be maintained while only wanting to maintain there own image of Dark Sun. Dark Sun isn't just Dune and Mad Max and Gladiator movies. It's not all grimdark. There's a lot of 80s/90s Saturday morning cartoons...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

Ok so no Dragons or Avangions as PC options. Let's preserve 2e canon. Except when we don't

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

It's Dark Sun, actually restoring the world has always been an endgame possibility. In any case Avangions don't just happen magically when you reach level 20, it's a path and heading down that path is something that PCs should be able to do. And Avangions get access to powerful terraforming...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

OK so how do we implement that in 5e? At what point does the future Avangion start picking up psionic powers and doing something with them? We no longer have Dual Class as a thing. Is the subclass a good place for that to begin then? Or is it better to go the 4e route and basically remove...

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

OK then. You have a point, if we stop preserving tradition, who knows what horrors might be unleased upon the world.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

Obviously the abiltiy is reputational and could be implemented without a sword. But you knew that of course. (Assuming you actually read it?) And obviously the point is not Fighters should get this, but Fighters should get somethng like this.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

Than neither do Avangions! They are basically terraforming machines that restore the planet. If Magic is purely destructive than they ought not to exist.

    D&D 5E (2014) (+) What would you want for 5e Dark Sun?

One thing I really liked from the 4e take on Dark Sun was the idea that Preservers and Defilers had different flavours. (Although this was in part built on the class differences in 2e). However, you do of course want Preservers to have the temptation to defile. But I think I'd implement the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Trade Road Name

Does it need to be a commodity? The Road of Kings or Road of Princes, works just as well, as reference to all the lands passed through rather than to the commodity. Religions travel along trade routes also, so it could be the Path of Prophets. You could pick a commodity that sounds exotic or...

D&D 5E (2014) Houseruled: Feats, Rolled Stats, MCing Pick One

I personally don't like rolling dice more for the principle of it, rather than because high stats are an issue. After all you can also end up much worse than the default array (Every single time I've rolled up a 5e character I have.) There's also the fact that when ability scores start...

D&D General Justifying dungeons for the modern age

Yes. This sort of thing is key to a successful dungeon I feel. Memorable dungeons are built on layers of time and metaphor.

D&D 5E (2014) Houseruled: Feats, Rolled Stats, MCing Pick One

Feats. I hate rolled stats, and if I'm playing a class system I'd generally rather lean into the classes than try and break them. But it's not all or nothing with feats. Allowing feats does not mean you have to allow all feats. There's a few feats I'd be really reluctant to ever strip out...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

I don't really care if you like it. That was just one particular approach to the problem, there were a bunch of others in the same post I'm just sick of people saying the Fighter can't have Fighter appropriate social abilities and then complaining that there are no examples of such abilites...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

5e really was an exercise in moving goal posts in a lot of ways. They finally gave Fighters access to more skills, but then they made skills far less impactful and gave the traditional skill monkey classes expertise to compensate.

D&D General Justifying dungeons for the modern age

Are they? Is the existence of an Underdark really any more justifiable then any other D&D trope?

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellcasters and Balance in 5e: A Poll

Acolyte: Cleric the background. Outlander: Ranger or Barbarian Urchin: Rogue. At the very least if the Fighter class is meant to be independent of any background, then it ought to get an extra background to make up for the absence of background in it's class.

D&D General Justifying dungeons for the modern age

The other thing I'd add is that a dungeon doesn't even have to be a physical place. It could be: The palace of a dead or sleeping god on a demi-plane entered by an appropriate ritual, the palace is collapsing slowly into a more and more labyrinthine structure as the magic that sustains it runs...

D&D General Justifying dungeons for the modern age

I'd suggest the following references: Eyes of the Stone Thief: by Gareth Ryder Hanrahan Thirteenth Age (Shows what can be done with the living dungeon and how it intersects with the mythic underworld idea.) The Parlainth Boxed Set (Earthdawn) or Vor Rukoth (4e): The Parlainth boxed set is Robin...

D&D General My Problem(s) With Halflings, and How To Create Engaging/Interesting Fantasy Races

A Song of Ice and Fire did have a massive impact on fantasy. It might not be at quite the cultural level of Tolkien, but it transformed fantasy. You can see the change in back cover blurbs. Before A Song of Ice nd Fire everyone was a new Tolkien, afterwards they're a new George R.R. Martin...
