D&D General Experiences Re-Drawing Adventure Maps?

The reason for larger rooms and corridors is so that the party does not have to spend all their early turns doing nothing but moving through the difficult terrain of the squares of party members who are in front of them, but who have lower initiatives. Smaller rooms make it easier for choke...

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2022

May I nominate Twilight 2K Twilight: 2000 (4th Edition) for 2022 under the theory that it won't get to stores and then to me until 2022 and it is what I am most looking forward to?

    D&D 5E (2014) Alternate Ranger

I suggest you eliminate Primeval Awareness. When a Ranger used it in 'The Sunless Citadel' I had to stop the whole game for over ten minutes to frantically read every monster name in the module, look up its type, and write down the noted types. Then the player did absolutely nothing with the...

D&D General D&D (and potentially other TTRPG's) is a sport

Levels that take increasing numbers of XP's is a catch-up feature. The new player can go from L1 to L5 (6,500 XP's in 5e) while the rest of the party stays L5 (going from say 7,000 XP's to 13,500 XP's.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rewarding Bad Ideas (Mechanically)

The best way to encourage bad ideas is with Inspiration. When the party encounters a villain and the Paladin chooses to just trust him, rather than rolling Insight, because his Flaw is that he "Is a sucker for a pretty face" and the villain has one, he should get Inspiration. When the Wizard...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's really useful on a DM screen?

I want to see things Players need to know on the players side. Art is pretty but rules are practical. AD&D got this right in 1st edition, but most games since have forgotten it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do We Really Need a Lot of Gold? (D&D 5th Edition)

As money increases time between adventures should increase. There's nothing wrong with saying "the winter passes uneventfully and it is now spring, everyone needs to pay 100 days of lifestyle expenses" once everyone has more than that much money.

    D&D General D&D doesn't need Evil

D&D needs evil so the players know it's OK to kill them and take their stuff. Other games can have more nuance.
