    WotC non-OGL alternative to D&D

Worlds Without Number didn’t have the OGL in it last I checked. There’s a lot in WWN that people who have played D&D will recognize. It was designed with the core of B/X in mind with a skill system based on Traveller. Heck the core rules are freely available to download.

MCDM monster book “Flee Mortals!” KS is live!

I agree. I’ve swapped in these versions at my table and each one my players have loved. But the minion rules have been such a great spice to add. But the new vampire in packet 4, finally feels CR13.

Spelljammer Does anyone know if the Spelljammer errata is into print now?

The Beedle and Grimm editions were delivered with the errata this past month.

D&D General Beadle & Grimm’s Premium Boxed Sets

I appreciated that there was a Players version of the booklet with the character rules. Having a separate book to hand out is going to be handy.

D&D General Beadle & Grimm’s Premium Boxed Sets

I also got the platinum Spelljammer. It’s my first Beedle and Grimm set. Burnside has summarized it well. My biggest wish is that there was some improved way to store everything rather than inside the foam-filled box it came in because it would improve getting at it!

D&D General Is Spelljammer really that bad?

I got it finally. I like this iteration a lot. (I bought the platinum Beedle and Grimm’s version, which was printed with the errata!) My first intro to AD&D was playing Spelljammer. I know people say it is a setting in its own, but I never felt that. As a player I always felt it was a way to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Gain 1 exhaustion when dropping to 0hp?

I like this as an option in a toolbox for trying to add some of a survival horror style that early D&D editions evoked. I can think of more to for such a play style toolbox too.

WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

And only things that reward shareholders by being obviously profitable, not marginally hopefully profitable despite a history otherwise.

WotC WotC needs an Elon Musk

It is curious how the Great Man Theory of leadership finds new ways to be reasserted.

    Worlds of Design: Spelljammer 2.0

The vast majority of my 2e playing years was in Spelljammer games. There was only 1 person ever enthusiastic about ship-to-ship Spelljammer combat, the DM. And one player who went along with what the others saw as a non-D&D diversion. Everyone else either sat around, grabbed a book, or grabbed...

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

I seem to remember watching a twitch stream of Lord Gosumba where Erik Mona mentioned that the idea of the Isle of Dread appearing in Greyhawk in the Paizo run of Dungeon Magazine came from the idea that Greyhawk places and personalities have been picked over and looted for other settings long...

D&D 5E (2014) The Next D&D Book is JOURNEYS THROUGH THE RADIANT CITADEL

I’m here for the thought provoking take on Waterdeep. I’ve never bothered to interrogate what is happening there like this. 🤔

    Arcane netflix series

You seem to have had the same reaction I did when I stumbled on it, bored and looking for some animation. I came across Arcane right before the third week was released because my news feed is filled with genre news. Suddenly there was this article that this show had some of this highest ever...

    Arcane netflix series

Rewatching it I enjoyed it even more. I noticed so many things the follow up rewatchings that had payoff later, or showed extra meaning to events that would happen. Amazing use of “show don’t tell”. Watching the “documentary” of the making on YouTube, “Bridging the Rift” I’m pretty sure they...

D&D General Tell me about Birthright

Matt Colville once had a Running the Game video up professing his love for Birthright, but I think he must have taken it down. I must say that one of my favorite Dungeon adventures was a Birthright-linked adventure. Seeking Bloodsilver, written by a young Chris Perkins, I filed off the...

D&D 5E (2014) Help me brainstorm unusual artificers

With a healer’s kit (or cook’s utensils, if you want this to include tools for prepping freshly killed game), you can assemble automatons from bone, flesh, skin, scales, or chitin. To attach upon the artificer. Take those parts and grow them from the smallest “ingredient” into as much as needed...

D&D General One Piece of Art V (Places)- What Piece of D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Place

Yeah, I don’t think I had ever seen that sort of mood or vibe in a D&D cover before, it is very nice.

D&D General One Piece of Art V (Places)- What Piece of D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Place

Stephen Fabian’s interior art of the glass skimmers of Taladas. The cover of the Taladas box was dreadfully boring. But Fabian really set the tone for Taladas and this piece of art did its job. So much of Taladas could have used better art, like the gnome citadels of the lava sea, Hithekel...
