    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Sooooo...why does a new class need to support subclasses at all? There's no reason why one base class can't have five subclasses while another has zero, depending on the flexibility and scope of the base class.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

I agree with this sentiment, but as the thread assumes there'll be another class and just wants our ideas on what it should be, that's how I answered.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

You say this. But then you say this... ...and in so doing express a desire for another martial with spell-like abilities. Doesn't quite mesh, somehow. :) As for the low-magic healing question, 5e makes it easier than ever before to do this right now. You're going to fully recover every...

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

It wasn't until 2007 that the game I was in jumped (on the fly in mid-campaign!) from 3e to 3.5e; which means we'd have been in the cohort still playing original 3e a year after 3.5e came out.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Never played PF in either form. Closest I got was 3.5e. Casters IMO are the limited-use big-effect guys while martials are the go-all-day energizer bunnies. Giving casters go-all-day abilities takes away the main advantage and appeal of martials.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

To balance that out it would seem there should be 4 Strength martials, 3 Dexterity martials, and 3 Constitution martials, or something like that. 10 casters vs 4 martials - no wonder martials keep getting the short end of the design stick.

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Knight - heavy armour, chivalric code (in different variants), mounted proficiency, ability to defend others (some sort of one-person shield wall maybe), high consistent damage (as in, best of all classes) - a tank with real serious teeth. Not a Warlord - no healing of any kind, no baked-in...

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

For me 3.5e felt more like a massive errata dump, after seeing four years of people managing to break 3e in so many different and unexpected ways. Never really saw it as a cash grab as such. Exactly - they're relying on two things: 1 - that the player base will continue to turn over like it...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Yep - one of 5e's poorer ideas.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Relatively speaking, whetstones are dirt cheap in the game; thus when I dock them a flat amount for general upkeep now and then, having a bit of that go toward a new whetstone makes sense. I could simply add to the weapon's listed weight to cover those extra material, I suppose, but that might...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Other - something completely non-caster but NOT Warlord. Knight, maybe?

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

As the 3e to 3.5e jump was fairly similar, I wonder what the % was of people playing 3.5e just a year after its release?

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Well, not quite. In my case, it's more that we (a fellow DM and I, in turns and stages) did the work to expand out the magic item table to include gobs of different weapons and - independently - gobs of properties and abilities to add to those weapons. The right-hand side of the main table on...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Because - and to repeat - it's immensely easier to take things out than to add them in. And sure: if it's not working for most, modify it such that it has a better chance of working and-or label it as optional. Knocking it out entirely isn't the answer, though, as there's going to be those as...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

If the player has "Whetstone" listed on the character sheet, that's enough for me to assume said whetstone is being used at camp each night, or (even more likely) each morning while waiting for the casters to do their praying and studying. And if said player tells me the character is sharing...

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

I think the best (and only?) way to deal with UA is for the DM to go through it with a fine-tooth comb deciding what to keep, what to modify, and what to chuck. Cavalier is a great class but needs some tweaking to reel it in a bit. Acrobat is unsalvageable. Barbarian is pointless unless...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Saying D&D has arguably always been bad at dungeon crawling is, one has to think, a rather hot take. Oh, yes, and intentionally so. That pre-capitalist society was only seen at the low end. Those with wealth? Little change from then to now, if any. And old-school D&D with its emphasis on...

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

Voted 1e+UA as that's closest to the homebrew 1e-adjacent system we use.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Not for the first time, I have to note that it's light-years easier to houserule things out than to houserule them in. Take 1e. It had rules for weapon-vs-armour-type. Many tables houseruled those out; it was an easy change to make. Had those rules not been in the book, however, nobody would...

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

Which levels, having run that module for multiple parties of considerably lower level, all seem a bit high. Might be more accurate if the PCs were assumed to have very few or even no magic items, but even then nine 9th-level characters with no magic items would likely chew up that module and...
