    D&D 5E (2014) 5e - Tales of the Old Margreve (Roll20) Campaign Recaps

Kobold Press is so damn good. For this campaign, I have probably cobbled together pieces of every sourcebook they've put out, plus my own ideas, and made it into something awesome.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e - Tales of the Old Margreve (Roll20) Campaign Recaps

Well, Scottius, I also started Roll20 January 2020, right before pandemic, and it was hard to adjust. I had the time (at the time) to spend hours a day practicing. I personally find it easy to make minis because I'm good at Photoshop and it takes like 2 minutes to edit and upload a token, give...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is animate dead considered inherently evil?

From the Wiki: [According to the Jewish tradition, golem was usually made of clay, moulded to roughly the human shape. To endow him with life, the so-called Shem was necessary, which in reality was not a thing, but the Word – Godʼs Name, written in the right way on a piece of parchment or...

D&D 5E (2014) Movement in whirlpool control Water weird dash action issue

For sure. If you think this will probably come up again, definitely have the DM make a ruling. It is a bit messy with different dynamics going on at once.

D&D 5E (2014) Movement in whirlpool control Water weird dash action issue

So he had water walk cast before he went down 20 feet? I would have ruled the spell repelled him and he couldn't have gone down at all. Only because there is nothing in the spell about picking and choosing if a liquid is solid for you or not. It is like "ground" for an hour.

D&D 5E (2014) Movement in whirlpool control Water weird dash action issue

Water Walk and Fly both? I would think he didn't even need to make a check., He's be flying on the water or just above it. The spell would prevent him from submerging, right?

D&D General Running D&D Games for "Non-Gamers"... your experiences?

In this classic episode of The IT Crowd, Moss takes three non-gamers through a session of D&D. Hilarity ensues.

    D&D 5E (2014) How Old-School is 5th Edition? Can it even do Old-School?

I would personally love to see a publisher put out a pseudo-DMG 2 that has all of these ideas incorporated, as well as optional initiative rules and resting rules and things like that. That was the kind of modular 5e I originally thought they were going for. Plug and play D&D.

D&D General Veteran fans - did you think of Basic D&D and AD&D as completely different games?

Growing up, I mistakenly believed Basic D&D was for kids and AD&D was for adults, so naturally I wanted to play the grown up version. Hence, I never once got to play the original D&D games, and only learned many years later that it was a stand alone product and not geared solely for children...

Ravenloft one-shot; PCs facing off against swarms of murderous carionettes. It was a bloodbath.

I am very, very curious myself. I'm surprised I never heard of this before.

TSR Unearthed Arcana II (cancelled 1986 book)

That's awesome! I had no idea that was going to be a thing. Too bad it never saw print. Art is the same style as the first book.

D&D General An alternative to XP

I haven't used XP since early 3e probably. It was such a hassle - and arbitrary - that I deemed it a waste of my time to calculate (and I don't like math). We just use milestones and I control the rate of leveling up. Some levels are faster, some slower. I would only use XP again if it was...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

Yeah, I had completely forgotten about that page. It's been a minute.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

Yes, the simplicity of default initiative is a strength, easy to learn and implement. I would love to see a 5e style Arcana Unearthed toolkit book chock full of alternate ideas, like they did with 3e. I loved that book.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

What did 2e use? I can't remember. And I love the idea of speed factor but it bogs things down. If it were in a CRPG for the computer to crush the math instantly, then I'd be all for it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why use initiative?

Oh, that reminds me, I had a few special cards included, like "Power Attack" that could mean whatever I wanted, so if that came up (for either PC or NPC) the next card pulled gained that power attack (such as extra damage usually). There were many ways to modify and tweak the card system. I...
