D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

Why have reservations? I had one player ask about it. We will probably play it 3 years minimum regardless of WotC. 1st pure 5.5 game will start soon/early next year. By thst I mean from lvl 1. We converted from 5.0 lvl 4. Curated 5.0 stuff allowed. Probably have 1 more after that...

Yup its an American corporation. Lots of ambiguous positive statements year on year predating 5E. I think D&D is fine and theyre spinning the crap out of it. Its very American to me. That means itchy teeth. Ever had itchy teeth? The D&D is fine opinion may change in about a year from this...

Every corporate type does it. Also in this case perception can equal reality. If the number is "low" the doomers will jump all over it. Could spiral into a self fulfilling prophecy maybe. For a lot of gamers I suspect its D&D or nothing. Consider early 5.5 statement. 5.5 sold 3 times...

I dont think theyre lying. They are spinning the cra out of their statements though and have been for years lol. I dont think 5.5 is tanking in any way.

That was early on near release. We dont know print runs, printing capacity etc. 5.5 the negative is more indifference.

D&D 5E (2024) The value of Sap Mastery

I dont notice that as much as I've been putting in more magical items than typical. Fairly close to the DMG 5.5 recommends. "Mundane" armor and shield that dont require attunement seem popular. Monk has bracers of defense +2 AC. Spellcasters lime the DM specials/BG3 imports more. Ymmv of...

2024 D&D Core Rulebooks Off to "Strongest-Ever" Start for D&D Books

Does WotC separate digital from physical? If Beyonds that high of sales some of thor "low" 5E phb sales combined with mammoth non phb sales start looking at bit more plausible. By low I mean 1.6 million to say 3 (cf 1E 1.5million phb).

D&D General examples of high tech stuff in dungeons and dragons?

I think one of the Ravenloft books was Victorian England maybe Georgian vibe. 2E combat and tactics was adding 17th possibly 18th century stuff to the game.

D&D 5E (2024) The value of Sap Mastery

Saps interesting. I haven't seen it used enough vs nick, vex, topple, graze and cleave. Its biggest problem is its defensive and in D&D offensive generaly wins. Dead>sap. Sword and board I would be looking at it especially with Sentinel.

5E is creatively bankrupt lol. 2E was creatively rich and went bankrupt. 5.5 ecosystem in its current form because thats what people wanted.

Forums kind of assume everyone switches over en masses. New D&D love or hate it its something new to talk about See previous comments about the differences in forum users and casuals. Two different worlds.

Traditionally revisions don't do as well. I've been saying we wont really know until year 2 and year 3 will confirm it. Peak 5.5 may have happened already. 5.0 wouldn't have retained everyone who bought a 5.0 phb. We will know more in a year or do. 5.5 isnt competing with 5.0 for sales...

Nope. ENworlds around half it seems going by the what are you playing thread. Elsewhere 1/3rd to a half going by similar informal polls. Fairly consistent with every other cycle change. Takes 2-3 years to hoover up everyone who will switch. Going with this threads figures 1st year of...

That kind of parachutes 5.5 into 2017 -19 sales out the gate. 5.0 doubled in sales 2017. Games 10 (13?) times bigger than 2014. Basically to be expected.

We dont know how big that print runs was. A reve ue figure was mentioned early iirc. Took a couple of years to ramp up the exploded. WotC has also claimed sales peaked in covid iirc. We already knew the game exploded around 2017. I remember WotC saying it hit 50 million and over 100...

You would have to compare it to 5.0s best year. That was the peak not 2014.

Outsold initially yes. 2014 vs 2024. Not 2014 vs say 2021.

Yeah ots something like that. I remember WotC mentioning 165 million. That's X11 right there. If there's another higher number wouldn't surprise me. ICV2 gave 13 or 14 million years ago for 2013. Not far off Riggs numbers.
