What do you love about The Wheel of Time?

I read Eye of the World when it was first released in 1990. It was a purchase I made for my sister's birthday, but she had no interest in it and I went ahead and bit the bullet. I enjoyed the characters, with Mat being my favorite, the setting, and the general plot of the first book. I really...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

This is a rare shot of my miniatures out in the wild enjoying some play time.

What makes a teaser or trailer work for you?

Just for fun, look up the original trailer for Soyland Green. If you didn't know the secret of Soylent Green before you saw the trailer, you'd know it after. For me, the trailer just has to pique my interest somehow and they're going to have to tell me something about the plot. It's really...

    Battletech Public Playtest Thread

Most war games I've played have stupid rules exploits like this. I just find this one particularly annoying and I'm surprised they haven't fixed it after so many decades. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks it needs to be fixed?

    Battletech Public Playtest Thread

If that's the rule then I think it should be changed to how many hexes you displace. While we take turns in games like BT, it's not like my mech moves and then waits politely for your mech to move. To run in a big circle, ending up where you start, is an abuse of the rules.

Working on the wings and I wish I did a better job making them symmetrical.

    Battletech Public Playtest Thread

A hex only represents about 30 meters (at least late time I checked), and if you're a vehicle moving so slowly that you can't get out of 30m hex then you're effectively immobile. This does remind me of a BattleTech argument I had during play circa 1992. My opponent had some sort of jumping...

D&D General Has 5e become noise?

It's hard to get exhausted when you're swimming against a trickle rather than a tide. WotC has a steady flow of new product rather than a deluge. For me, I suppose all 5E products that aren't put out by WotC is noise to me. I don't use third party products mainly because I'm not really...

    NUREMBERG Official Trailer (2025)

The great thing about science fiction and fantasy is it allows for plausible deniability when it comes to to current topics. The Forever War is just a science fiction story about humans battling aliens in space and in no way has anything to do with the Vietnam War. You thought it was about...

Without checking IMDB, I'm assuming Crowe is playing the part of Herman Goring.

    IN REMEMBRANCE--2025

The Moody Blues were a staple of oldies stations when I was growing up. The first thing I thought when I saw that Lodge had died were the lyrics to "Tuesday Afternoon." I wonder how many people under 30 know who the Moody Blues are? We truly are all dust in the wind (different band, I know).

AD&D 1E What is the cost of one night at an Inn?

On inn's very like another when your head's down over your miniatures, brother! This is one of those D&Disms where we tend to think of inns in a similar way we do a modern hotel. Most medieval inns didn't have private rooms, with the few that did reserved for the wealthy, which would apply to...

D&D General Nolzur creates inclusive miniatures, people can't handle it.

Something broke inside me not too long ago and I've come to the conclusion that D&D, like Camelot, 'tis a silly place. I've learned the game is best enjoyed by leaning into the D&Disms which means I don't sweat the little things like the economy, how many arrows a PC is carrying, trifling...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

This is kind of where I am. I like how everything works in 5E, more or less, but I don't care for a bunch of filler combat where victory is a foregone conclusion at the cost of some resources. In my current campaign, I've started to get a little better about spacing out several encounters that...

D&D General Is Your DM Out to Get You? [Humor]

I like big crits and delight when NPCs score them against PCs. At my last session, the Warlock NPC fired off two eldritch blasts at the Sorcerer and scored two criticals. Tears of joy!!
